Honestly? Blue Nile but that's me, even if you don't get the 2ct, and you get maybe a 1.75. Tiffany isn't cutting it for you on finding one of good enough proportions.

That is definitely true. And it's so frustrating!

The option of getting a larger diamond is very tempting... but I must admit that I really like the classic Tiffany setting and I'm not sure how good the Blue Nile settings look in real life. Are they of high quality as well?

Oh, and I've heard BN also offer servicing and cleaning, so that might be an advantage since I don't like to go to a different jeweller.

Do you think BN will stay in business for years to come so that I can always send my diamond back to them?

I think BN will stay in business for years to come, but they're not the place I'd go for routine cleaning or polishing. That I would do locally. Just if there's an issue or you want to upgrade, which I believe they offer now. Confirm with BN what they handle.

Many of their settings are quite nice quality. If you're willing to buy online from a vendor in the US that will open you up to even more possibilities.

You can also get the same size from BN and just spend less money overall.

Now, my ring size is 5 (actually smaller, but the ring has to fit over the knuckle) and I wonder what would be best and if diamond shrinkage really exists (or rather if it gets "severe" over time).

A lot depends on how much the diamond covers that area of your finger. I prefer to have a diamond or stone covering more than half my finger. Here is a chart from PriceScope using round brilliant cut that may help you decide. It was incredibly useful to me. YMMV.

Ring Size and Carat Weight (chart at bottom of page)

I'm a size 7.25, and I find a 8mm princess sitting low on my finger looks gorgeous (equiv. of 2cts). Don't have one yet, but I am perfectly happy with my CZs :D

I'd hoped my fiancée now husband picked the smaller one, weird huh? Having 3 ct cushion in a halo setting with 3.5 finger size makes the ring is huge and where I live I don't see much of that size around :( Talked to him once and he's upset because I don't appreciate his ring :)) so I just live with it for now but don't think want any upgrade :)

SO I have a .75ct Tiffany cathedral solitare. I love it it has something different about it and also so classy its a 6 prong and I wouldn't change it. I have it with a small diamond wedding band.

Now My GF has a ring from BN. Honestly do not recommend it. The ring is apparently the same cut clarity and color as mine and mine looks way better. Plus they take forever for service. She had to send it in for service 6 weeks later!!!! she got it back.

If you want to see my ring I can post a picture if you want. Hope this helps. :D

Without seeing the angles you can't know for sure what the differences in cut quality are, and that's your assessment that hers is inferior to yours. You also have no idea what kind of service she needed, and what the promised turnaround was, she may have been told up front that time window. For some types of work, that's pretty average.

true on the angles but her certificate of authenticity claims the same. shes one of my best friends and is very unhappy with the ring from there. and The service of 6 weeks is not normal for a cleaning.

Well that's not really Blue Nile's fault that it's not the best stone. That's her fiance's fault/her fault for not selecting a better one. You're in total control of that when you are buying. You can select the stone yourself and if she's not happy, she needs to speak up and see if they have any recourse to exhange it. Probably not at this point since they're out of the 30 days.

As for cleanings, you can get that done locally on the spot.
