2 weeks b'c I had a style in my mind. it was quite easy b'c we met the SA and the goal is to match my birthday in the carat size with reasonable clarity and color. My carat weight represents my birthday so it took her maybe a week to locate it.

I knew what I wanted so we just went and chose the stone one day.
We didn't know as much back then, I just knew I wanted a princess cut.
DH had a budget and we went and fulfilled that.
Fast forward 9 years. . . again, I knew what I wanted for the upgrade which was as big as I could get and still be magnificent - didn't want to compromise too much on teh quality.
We went plain so I could think long and hard about the setting. I'm glad too because I like the idea of stacking fun eternity bands w/ or w/o the solitaire.

Annnie, do you know which shape you like best yet?

No clue.. dh picked it out on his own. They stayed open 2 addl. hours after closing & was there till 10pm from what the SA that assisted him told me (I met her after to get it resized) :amuse:

My hubby went and got it on his own! We had previously looked in Tiffany's but never thought twice about it until he proposed! He did well, a round solitaire from...Tiffany's!

my bf looked for the stone on his own and proposed with just the stone! :D haha

I've always collected pics of rings that I loved, but once I got the stone I realized...these arent right!

It seached online furiously the night he proposed (we should be cuddling, I know), and found the perfect prong set halo setting. We went to the jeweler's the following day and had it made :)

When we FIRRRRRRRRST went stone hunting, so my bf can see some colors that I liked, we looked at princesses, cushions, radiants, and rounds.

cushions at 1 carat looked tiny.....
radiants will need side stones for me to love it, but my bf's wallet wont.....
princesses will need sidestones too to balance the sharp edges.....

round was jussssssssssssssssssssst right.

Umm two hours :D

Husband (then boyfriend) took me into Tiffany one afternoon by surprise (and when I say surprise I mean surprise.. I was wearing tshirt, shorts and a baseball cap :shame:). Tried on a few rings (Lucida setting, classic Tiffany setting) and chose one on the spot. Also tried on matching wedding bands and liked the channel setting band but later changed my mind and got the shared setting band. Oh and he proposed two days later on my birthday :p

Oh, definitely about an hour.

We went to one jeweler and asked about a few different rings, and they were VERY rude....so we ended up staying only 10 mins and left -

After an hour at a competing jeweler I knew I wanted a certain ring. I actually had pics from a magazine (the pages were hidden in my wallet, lol, and when the SA asked what I thought I had in mind I simply pulled them out!) ...... It was really interesting b/c DH had different ideas in mind, and eventually I explained why I liked what I did. I put it on a "wish list" and DH went a few different times to decide on a center stone.

It's perfect. And truly, I'd have it no other way :) If there's an "upgrade" in the future, it will be for a right hand ring or something else... my engagement ring and wedding ring are exactly how I dreamt they would be!

I knew what I wanted after about 2 times trying on rings. Actually, I probably knew before even going, because I loved cushions in general, but also was interested in aschers and emerald cuts. So I did want to try on, and I tried on a lot of shapes, but always went back to the cushions.

When my bf set out to buy it - I didn't want to be part of that process, honestly didn't even know he was seriously considering buying at that time - he said it took about 3 weeks. He didn't buy through the same jewelers we went to look at, and when he found the jeweler he wanted to work with they had new settings and stones brought in for him to look at which took a little while to get in and for him to decide.

Eight months. My fiance and I lurked around Pricescope.com, Good Old Gold, Whiteflash, and local jewelry stores for months before deciding to check out two stones from two different companies with our appraiser. We chose our stone and immediately contacted Leon to make a custom setting. After that, I'm not exactly sure how long it took him to make the ring because it was a surprise from that point (maybe 6-8 weeks, plus some time for shipping and then fiance hashing out details of the setting with LM). I started looking in April 2007 and we were engaged in November 2007. Because we rarely have days off, eight months was really like eight days for us.

Day #2! I thought I wanted a princess cut for the longest time. The second I compared a RB to a princess in person, I was hooked on the RB.

We found my setting and stone at the same place, a jewelry store that specializes in estate pieces. We looked at TONS of rings those two days, but at the end of day #2, it was one of only three that I actually tried on, and the only one I didn't want to leave the store without! : )

I wasn't involved with the process, but I think it took him three months to decide on a stone that he wanted, and then another month for the setting to be custom made. I had no clue that all of this was happening, even though I was definitely in "engagement fever" mode.
