has anyone here purchased the Puzzle bag in satin calfskin? I have no idea whether this type of leather is more delicate as opposed to their other leathers. I am interested in the aubergine puzzle but it only comes in satin calfskin leather.

Quoting what I responded to someone else who asked a similar question previously: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/the-loewe-puzzle.1002508/post-35572748
In that thread there's also a response from someone a few posts later regarding the satin calfskin and if you do a general search in the Loewe forum I think there was a comparison someone did somewhere about the different leathers Loewe uses.

Did you end up going with this one? I’d be interested in hearing how you’re getting on with the satin calfskin!

I have recently purchased a gorgeous orange small Hammock and now considering getting another one, in neutral color, most likely used. But when I searched online for Hammocks in good condition, they all have significant sagging on the sides. The reason I fell in love with it in the first place, is that it looks sturdy and holds the shape well (judging by my less than month old Hammock). Do they all get softer and looser over time or it is to do with the leather type and the wear? For the reference my orange Hammock in smooth leather and the one I was eyeing up on secondary market light beige. Hope that makes sense, thanks for the answers 🧡

Not really though. I've seen the classic calfskin with no color in the stamped logo, like the burgundy or the dark blue.
I just bought a black puzzle that was described as “classic calf” from neiman marcus. Medium size, the old style. Embossed logo, no color… so I agree the white logo vs embossed as a clue to the type of leather is iffy. In other news, I quite like the bag. Shoulder strap is a little short for me, for crossbody. Any suggestions?

Here's my Medium Puzzle in the classic Tan/Gold colour, and I have had it since Jan 2020 and have used it consistently, at least twice a week, and I must say the quality is impeccable... absolutely zero corner wear, zero glazing issues, zero scratches on the hardware, minus the feet, etc. The only thing that has 'aged' is the softening of leather over continuous use, as well as being constantly stuffed with items inside - which can be most evidently in the body of the bag, and also the handle, as I like to hand carry it a lot). The only thing that has some wear is that the light coloured fabric interior has some dirt marks, but that could be easily resolved if I bothered to clean it - so that's on me.

Below is a side by side comparison of my Puzzle when it was about a week old (left, taken on the 8th Jan 2020) and on the right (taken on the 11th April 2021).

Hope this helps anyone in deciding! Long story short, I highly recommend it, and I am intending on getting the OG Small Puzzle, and the Mini Puzzle in the future - because I like the design and functionality of the bag so much!
How would you clean the interior? What products would you use? Thanks for the help!

From your pictures it looks like the orange Hammock is satin calfskin (?) This is not going to lose shape at all, which for me is actually a problem. Hammock needs to sag on the sides, it's the whole idea of it collapsing in on itself, it also makes the bag more secure. The compact Hammock, especially in satin calfskin, will not sag, will not conform to its 'ideal' shape, and will be more open and less secure.

Thanks so much for the detailed answer! It all makes sense now but I’m still obsessed with a bit of structure my orange hammock offers 🧡But you’re right, lack of secure fastening is an issue so I probable should considered grained leather for the reasons you’ve mentioned ☺️

Omg so sorry for the late reply! I actually have never cleaned the inside - so I am not too sure. I think what I am going to do when it gets to the point where i can't tolerate it is to send it to a professional bag cleaner to get the interior cleaned. Honestly, I just looked at the inside of my Puzzle and it basically looks the same as when made my initial post!

I have a roughly year old small puzzle in the classic calfskin in bright ochre. It looks amazing on the outside considering how I treat it. I've noticed a little corner wear but no scratches or discolorations. I'm not intentionally rough with it but I don't baby it either and have long nails.

I too am pleased with how my medium edge puzzle in classic calf has worn, since May. It’s July now and I’ve used it pretty much every day.

Many times I’ll bump into things, or my daughter will bump things into me (like the car door while she’s closing it) and I’ll quickly check for scratches or scuffs. I haven’t seen any. I’m really impressed with this leather. It’s very resistant to scratches and scuffs.

Amazing! That’s good to hear! :) I was thinking to help it keep clean I’ll try to use pouches so makeup and perfume and stuff don’t ruin the interior lol

My experience with Loewe bag quality unfortunately is not great ….

I have a Loewe small yellow elephant bag purchased in person by myself from a Loewe boutique… I only used the bag gently like 3 times and the color was fading from the end of the nose of the elephant showing “off white” leather underneath … their coating on the bag sucks! I called Loewe store and asked if they could paint it back and they said “no” so I ended up painting the faded parts myself so that the elephant’s end of the nose remains yellow like the color of the bag. I put the bag away for a while and recently took it out again .. and I used it really gently ONCE and the yellow color came off from another part of the elephant … so I have to paint it back when I have time …..

This is very frustrating .. I love the bag because it’s so adorable and cute and was a gift from my hubby (I chose the elephant myself) but I’m just annoyed that the coating they did on the bag is so bad that basically the color disappears easily if the bag “gently rubs or touches something “ -.- I’m really gentle with my bags.. none of my bags from other brands have this issue.. maybe I’m just unlucky..

I don’t plan to buy Loewe bags from now on …feel a bit discouraged to buy from them even though I see so many of their bags with nice leather … sigh…

I’m amazed by how well my mini puzzle in tan classic calf has worn after 4 years of heavy wear… I have other handbags but use this one the most. I’ve taken it traveling, in snow, in sweltering heat, in rain, and it has just a few scratches (from my toddler, not really normal wear). It has had denim transfer because I do wear it with dark jeans BUT I wipe it with a baby wipe and it completely takes off all of the color transfer with no harm to the original color. It’s magical.

Wow that’s really surprising, I’ve never had color fading on any of my Loewe bags (and we do have two large elephant bags - one in hunter green and one in apple green). I’ve had color transfer happen on just one of my Loewe bags (the monochrome orange puzzle).
