how do you store your bags during summertime?

I use Damprid, it's some sort of dessicant in a bag that hangs in the closet and it gets rid of a lot of humidity. You can actually see the moisture collecting and know when it's time to change it out to a new bag. I'm personally not too concerned about temperature changes.

I'm in the southeast US. In general here, it is 90-105F / 32.2-40.5C with at least 50% humidity all summer. Average humidity for the summer months is probably 75-80%. The main rooms of the house are air conditioned and insulated but the closets aren't so they get very hot and damp in the summer and very cold in the winter. This house is about 80 years old so I don't think it's the norm for construction now but it is something we are always having to deal with.

Outside temp for today in particular is 95F / 35C. I went in the closet just now and it feels like maybe 86F / 30C compared to the rest of the house which is at 74F / 23.3C. It was still more humid in there than the rest of the house but none of the clothes were actually damp since the Damprid is doing its job. I should also mention that when I store the bags, I do put a silica gel packet inside them along with the bag shaper. But to be honest I have never noticed any damage to my bags directly from temperature/humidity. I started using the Damprid to protect my clothes, not really thinking of the bags. Most of the damage on them is due to taking them out and getting scraped or dirty.

I live where it’s quite hot and humid in summer. We run aircon, but I store my bags in a wooden armoire, closed to keep light off of them, on shelves, not in boxes, dustbags inside the bag, and I keep dehumidifier turned on 55 percent. For vintage or delicate bags I toss some silica packs or charcoal/bamboo packs inside the bag. Even my vintage croc and patent leather bags are fine.

Are mold easily developed within days of high humidity? I accidentally left my wet clothes hanged for days inside my closet due to broken dryer. My closet door is always halfway open, but that's where all my handbags are stored as well. Worried since the clothes didn't dry within 4 days that my closet humidity was too high? I now have to rewash my clothes but just curious if this will develop mold instantly that I couldn't see under naked eye?

Mold won't show instantly but it may have started growing, 4 days is a long time to stay damp. Can you take the bags out to a drier room? If you set them out and let them dry for a few more days and don't see any tiny white specks on them, you should be ok... I would be more worried about the clothes molding.

thanks, the clothes look fine, I rewash and tumble dry them. So it's best to probably bring all of my bags out and leave it out? If there's no white specks occuring within days means no possible mold growing isn't it? and it will be fine to return them back to the closet?

Yes I think just bring them out for a couple days and set them in a well ventilated area if you want to be safe, I really don't think they will have mold but it doesn't hurt to let them air out for a little while.

what temp do you guys think acceptable for leather bag and not ruin them? I just checked my closet temp reached 25C the past couple of days, wondering if this is too hot?

+1 and I use damprid and other dissicant too.

keep them away from the sun but allow for ample air circulation and space if possible.

Is it safe to tuck in my Chanel classic flap bag leather chain inside the dust bag along with the bag in the dust bag? During the summer is hot and humid. I turn the AC OFF when I’m at work but when I’m home I turn it on. Should I be ok?

I would not. Putting it in a dust bag only traps in more humidity.

Is there a place in the house where you can put it so that there is air circulation or some kind of ventilation?

We only turn our AC on during the hottest hours of the day (~2 - 5pm), but we still have all of our bathroom air vents on to circulate the air or sometimes just turn on the ventilation system but don't turn the AC on.

Unfortunately There’s not a place where there is a ventilation. So for the leather chain part, I should keep them hanging out of the dust bag, correct?
