Barge, I have read them all and they are a riot!! Too darn funny!! :roflmfao:

I have to agree with you both!! They were hilarious and made me feel like maybe I wasn't the only shopaholic out there!! :graucho:

Anyhow... I would say getting distracted at work really helps... but right now I am off work for a bit... so that's not good for the shopping!! :) I just try to make lists for things I have been wanting or specific types of items I know I need in my closet, and not go too crazy... and if a shopping trip starts to go the "there's just TOO many great deals here!" route - I try to make a bee-line for the exit before getting too many impulse purchases... usually under 2-3.

I try to buy more classic bags that I can wear for years and years. I will allow myself to buy a trendier bag sometimes if I find a really good deal. I also try to think about how often I'll wear a bag and how it fits with the rest of my collection. There are some styles of bags that I only need so many of, KWIM? Also, I consider color. I already have 4 great black everyday bags, so I really don't need another.

I think it's hardest for me during sales...especially right now that stores are trying to clear their winter merchandise and during the summer when they clear out spring/summer stuff. The discounts keep getting better and better that I can't resist. But I guess once Mid-February/March rolls around, the sales will be less interesting, everything will be selling at their sticker price, and I won't be interested in buying anymore...until the next big sale!

I have walked past sales this year - mainly bec my baby crying reminded me that I should not spend money on a large scale.
I know what you are saying, I used to be like this - I am not anymore! (but then I also quit smoking - so I can if I have to)

How did I do it? My fav example is the Viktor &Rolf H&M line last year - I found a lot of that stuff on sale from 50 euro to 15 euro (and I am sure they still make a profit) - so really, nothing is worth the money you pay for -
so I have a list of things I would like because I need them/they really match my wardrobe, style etc - and when I see something that matches then I go for it. Also, i walk by a possible impulse by at least twice in a day, and then wait until the next day to see if I still want it - I have brought a lot of stuff back!

when it comes to men  - I got my 'hermes birkin' so I am done - but the waiting list was bloody long.......

Apart from the obvious factor of money, I can at times find it very difficult to hold myself back from buying every bag that I think looks gorgeous, irrespective of whether it really matches my style.

I would love to streamline my look into something more classic, but every time I go shopping my desire for something NEW takes over. The result is that I have a hodge podge collection of soon-to-be passe bags that I thought looked good at the time, I still have feelings for, but are now only memories of the fun times we used to have.

If a handbag is a tool for making you look more stylish, at what point is the pursuit for style overtaken for the lust for a new handbag conquest?

Sometimes I think I would be more chic with a well edited collection of five bags rather than swimming in a sea of the latest trendies...

I feel that there is nothing less appealing in an outfit than a mismatched handbag that is worn only because it is impossibly cute!

To be clear, my style is very simple. I wear mainly beige, black and navy, with a few pastles. I mainly wear vintage style YSL suits and little cotton prada-esque dresses for casual. I think I would benefit greatly from getting rid of all the Gucci and Fendi stuff that is fun, but not really me. I just need some moral support! I really prefer a more structured bag, but have ended up with a large collection of hobo bags ... god I have to streamline!

Perhaps bags are like men, you need to be faithful to your style once you have found it rather than running after every single nice little piece of ass (or croc or chevre) that comes along.

Does anyone else have the same problem?

Perhaps I am too harsh?

I can feel an eBay clean out coming on ... It will be hard to say good bye to all that beautiful leather, though.

I don't lol. But in all seriousness, I buy bags according to the occasions/situations for which I'll wear them. And let's be honest, for most of us, we're not finding ourselves in that many situations where so many handbags are needed (most of it is a want). I can categorize my bags by work bags, cocktail bags, bags to wear to vintage lifestyle events, casual weekend bags, evening bags. And I have a small collection so all of my bags fit into 2 or more of these categories.
