I wear mine everyday, everywhere for all occasions. That is one of the things I love about it, it goes with everything and is so sturdy. You really don't have to baby it, just wear it and enjoy it! I used to wear my Rolex 24/7 and just take it off to shower (although you don't have to) and after months of doing that it actually still looked new with only tiny tiny marks on the fluted bezel. The oyster bracelet does show a little more wear then the Jubilee bracelet but it just adds to the beauty.

Do I need to wear the watch everyday for it to keep working? I didn't wear it yesterday and now I have to reset the time and date and I don't know how! I read the broushore but honestly couldn't do it.. Please educate me!

You sound like me... i dread months that don't have 31 days because I have zero ability to reset my own watch. I joke with DH that I'll never leave him because I don't know to operate my watch without him to help.... i think the last time I did it on my own it took a good 30 minutes of me fiddling with the notches.

I believe to reset it, you may need to wind it manually and then set the time and date. The different clicks are each for a different movement... First is for winding, second is for date and third is the time? OBVIOUSLY someone will most likely know how to do this better than I.

But to answer the first question.... I really don't worry about it. I bought my watch as an everyday watch to be worn and enjoyed. I've dropped food all over it, gotten it gross with lotion, gone running with it... etc. It's just become a very comfortable piece for me and it goes with everything. I also don't want to have to worry about resetting the watch if the motion stops so it's another reason I like to wear it everyday. The scratches don't bother me at all and I have the oyster bracelet which supposedly shows scratches more. Nothing a good tune up and buff won't fix!

Since day 1, I have had no qualms about wearing my Rolex. Often times, scratches can be buffed out of the metal bracelet & case. The crystal can be replaced if need be. Rolex is not unlike any other piece of jewelry in that it can be refurbished form time to time it that's really a concern.

If you want your watch to keep time when you're not wearing it, you ned to buy a watch winder. It provides gentle movement for your watches while you're not wearing them.
Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Brookstone-Single-Watch-Winder/dp/B001O6K4DM
They make them in various styles and they can accommodate one or more watches based on the unit that you choose.

Perhaps I'm a little spoiled because my DH owns a company that maintains surgical equipment. He has access to some of the same buffing/polishing equipment that a jeweler might use. Every once in a while, I will give him my jewelry and watches, he buffs/polishes them, professionally ultrasonic cleans them, and returns them to me looking brand new. Dirty, dull jewelry is one of my pet peeves:p

I got a reply from Rolex in the meantime:

"We advise you not to clean your Rolex watch in an ultrasonic cleaner but rather to wash it periodically in lukewarm soapy water, using a soft brush on the bracelet, case and crown. Before doing this make sure that the crown is securely screwed down onto the case."

Woops! :smile1:

They are probably just worried about the movement which while sturdy is also very delicate. So i assume the sharp shaking back and forth can affect the movement mechanism, just like the sharp shaking of an ultrasonic cleaner can break opals and pearls and soft stones... I don't think it would hurt it if done occasionally, but if done frequently i would assume it can damage the movement.
