Happy Monday, all! I got into LV last year when my boyfriend, who was a big LV fan, bought me my first bag. Since my first wallet purchase last May, I’ve added 7 LV bags, two pairs of LV shoes, a YSL, and a Fendi.

I have recently begun sharing my bags on my social media pages and even joined Tik Tok JUST for the LV and luxury bag community. Most people are really there for the same reasons as me - to look at gorgeous bags and get style inspo and inspo on bag cabinets, etc. but some people are really just SO rude and yesterday, for the first time, someone commented rudely on an unboxing video of my sunrise pastel petit sac plat and I felt ENRAGED and very defensive of my bag haha!!

This probably seems so trivial and childish and I DO know bigger things are going on in the world but I was just so irritated by this. I feel like it will probably happen more as I post more of my bags.

So, I’m curious! How do y’all handle it when people say rude things about your bag on social media or in real life?

Here are the screenshots of what was said and how I reacted (and yes I know my ig name is there! It’s not a private page and I’ve posted my face on here before lol): AF5FA6B8-6881-4B65-B5FE-63D3628A7068.png6B412817-4C16-474C-A553-034B078AB0F7.png

Isn't one of the cornerstones of social media rudeness and insults? I'm not even trying to be snarky but social media is full of opinionated and often mean spirited people, or tattletales. Is there a block function on Tik Tok? That is probably how most people handle it but even then, don't think you can totally avoid it. The internet is not the place to be if you only want cheers and compliments.

Unnecessarily rude comments and trolls are one of the reasons I'd be nervous to start any sort of youtube or whatever... I say just ignore them and delete the comments, and block repeat offenders. They are looking to start an argument and think it's entertaining to waste your time, you're not going to change their mind getting into longwinded fights with them and it'll just leave you in a bad mood. Some people just never grew out of the phase of speaking their mind 24/7 regardless of how it's received, like toddlers do. And you just know they wouldn't have the bravery to say the same thing in real life either...

i don't think rudeness and insults are the "cornerstone" of anything. information is the cornerstone of the internet. i find it strange to go on a random person's page and insult their purse. i am not a fashion blogger. i posted my bag in celebration of my bag. i do understand strangers have access to my page and i am not crying in the corner over the comment but just more curious on how other people react when they receive this kind of feedback as it's never happened to me before. i was more wondering if you reply back snarkily? ignore? block? say something funny?

i have seen people be rude on major fashion blogger's comments but never my own so just interested in how other purse fans handle that.

i wasn't sure whether to delete the comment or reply!! i think i will just delete and block moving forward because it did put me in a bad mood haha!! like how dare you talk **** about my little sunrise baby!! this was definitely just a troll and not someone i know so definitely a time-waster!! thanks for your input :)

Is this someone you know IRL? If not, I would just ignore or hide their comments and move on. Some people thrive on being Trolls and bullying others. Don't let them ruin your bag love & excitement.

that's a good differentiator - no it wasn't someone i know in real life!! i need to just delete and block trolls. now, if someone i know IRL says a rude comment, that would need to be addressed! thanks for your input!

To be honest, I very rarely post my bags and luxury purchases on my public social media. Never unboxings.

I have my private IG account for my personal life.
And I have a separate personal "lux" IG account just for my luxury purchases/photos alone. That IG is basically for me. Just for me to take cute photos of my stuff and admire my personal belongings on a photogenic level lol.
I do not share that lux IG account on my public social media. I don't publicize it.
I've probably only told like 10 close friends about it.
If someone happens to find it and follow me, cool, I don't really care unless that person is stalking me.

I used to do Youtube years ago. I was never focused on luxury. I did unboxings and shopping hauls. But along the way, I realized I preferred a private life more and I stopped. I don't recall getting hate comments or anything like that. It's just not my thing anymore and I'd rather do other things.

yes, i agree! that's why i made a tik tok - that platform is going to be for my luxury stuff only and i don't follow or interact with anyone i know IRL on there. i DID post this unboxing on my IG and i ALMOST didn't do it but a few close friends wanted to see the bag so i just went ahead and shared it to my instagram, also. the rude comment reminded me why i made a separate account on a separate platform! i won't be sharing any content like this on my IG again! thanks so much for your input!!

Don't get involved with Twitter or Reddit if this upset you, genuine advice. It's extremely common for discussions online to derail quickly, there is bad faith actors virtually everywhere because of anonymity. The more anonymous a platform is by design the more toxic it gets, that's why IG is comparatively tame. This was a single person's input, it's not representative of anything and you shouldn't care about it.

i've actually been on reddit for years now and joined LV reddit last year and have had nothing but pleasant interactions with people there and i post often and regularly! i think that's another reason this surprised me so much as every interaction on reddit and on here have been friendly and positive even when people have differing opinions about bags. the UNNECESSARY rudeness really took me by surprise!

ETA: it's didn't really UPSET me as it made me feel just annoyed by the kind of people who are rude in life in general for no reason at all!! like that just really grinds my gears and always has!

my ex bf plays in the NFL and is (was? lol) good at his position and was people often wrote rude things to me on twitter if he had a bad game or something. that sort of "unnecessary rudeness" i understood. you're a fan; you're irritated. whatever. i just really do NOT understand when people are randomly rude to people they don't know. i really pride myself on being kind. you never know the crosses that others bear. i do appreciate your input!!

haha my bf is always telling me to stop explaining myself to everyone. such a pisces trait. thank youuuuu for the injection of confidence i needed!
This! I've been very conscious lately of the need to stop explaining myself. We all have different financial priorities, as well as levels of disposable income. What I do with my money is no one's business. Same for you.

Yes, it depends on the community. If it's a rather homogenous thing like makeup you'll have less confrontation. Although if you sort by controversial there is issues in almost all threads with 100+ upvotes.

I used to have a large following on IG, can’t remember but I think I had close to 50,000 followers and I got so sick of nasty rude comments I decided to delete my IG account permanently and at first I missed it but honestly it was the best thing I done, I don’t have any social media now and I’m so much happier…… I would try to ignore these trolls because they thrive on you replying and interacting with them, just don’t give them the time of day.
