Well I guess that explains why some sellers are charging $12-$14K for a new Birkin, since they're paying yet another middleman for the bag.

I think that the bottom line is - because Hermes often picks and chooses who they will sell a birkin to, and because there is such a limited supply, there is an obvious need for a second market. Thankfully, there are some wonderful resellers who are not only providing an opportunity for those who wouldn't otherwise have access to buy Hermes bags, but they make a profit for their time and effort in doing so. Nothing wrong with that- and only wish I had thought of it first. LOL!
^ me too. Although, DH says yeah right - we'd end up with 100 Birkins in inventory - none of which you'd be willing to part with!! LMAO!!
