How do other people react to your love for LV?

That is a very interesting thread.
No one in my whole family loves bags like me, except an aunt, but we are not really close and I do not see her very often. But the difference between me and her is that buying bags for her is to brag, yeah she is rich and she wanna everyone know that.
Back to me: I love bags since when I was little. I spent my first salary on a Gucci bag that I still have and love. I used to care what other people say to my bag addiction and that makes me very sad and I was even trying not to use my designer bags. My parents are extremely against it but I learned not to tell them the true price. Usually, I just ignore the bad comments and tell them with a smile: That's my money, I do what I want.

I am soo happy that my hubby is much more understandable. He said as long as I am happy he is happy too :)

Great thread. I'm so glad to be apart of this community. I have had some backlash from family and friends, like many other's on here, about my LVoe for LV.

People are usually "okay" with it by now, but I am still very caught off guard when someone makes a comment. For example, I went to Thanksgiving at my boyfriend's cousin's families house and I decided to bring my DE Speedy with a bandeau on it. They are very casual and all of his family members were flying in from all around the country so I wore jeans and decided to "dress up" by rockin' one of my fav bags. His cousin greeted me and the first thing she says is "IS that REAL?!" I thought she was joking and I hugged/kissed/greeted her and ignored her comment in the midst of greeting everyone. She continued.. "Is that a Louis?" I turned red, "yes, it's Louis." "But is it real?!??" she pressed on. I was so overwhelmed, trying to greet everyone and I got so pissed that she wouldn't let it go. I finally turned to her and said "yes, it's real. I've been working a long time and this is what I enjoy." She then turned to some of the other cousins and they continued to talk about the bag, doubting if it's real, made a comment about how I shouldn't put it on the carpet,.. It was mortifying! I tried to let it go, but it just bothered me getting confronted like that in front of their whole family and they wouldn't let it go. I was also upset because we live in a city and got up EXTRA early to pick up a rental car, meet my boyfriend's sister and her boyfriend, and drive over 2 HOURS to his cousin's house to visit with everyone. That's 4 hours round trip in a day, it's exhausting! They are so rude sometimes!
Oh wow! That just shows a basic lack of class.i mean if someone had a nice engagement ring, would someone call them out in front of others and say "is that real?" In either instance, it's shows a total lack of class. I once had an older lady compliment my ring and say "too bad it's not real". I was floored....because it was real and her comment was just rude and unnecessary. Too bad people can't buy manners!

Hahaha.

Well every time my husband sees me in a new bag, he always tells me "thats new. Ive never seen it before" and he knows that LV is expensive. Sometimes he will ask me how much it is. I guess it's true that women are from Venus and men are from Mars...
Thankfully my husband doesn't know the prices lol. He knows I started with lower priced bags & that I sell and trade up....seriously I started with Vera Bradley when my son was young....then coach, Kors, spade.....I've bought and sold smart and EARNED my LV....with minimum impact to the wallet. So he knows I don't spend a lot out of pocket....but never asks the value of a bag. I think he just trusts that I didn't cash a CD to get it. Hahahaha! It's probably best that he never knows.

I posted this "comment" on one of my bags in another similar thread some time ago however I'd like to post it here too....

I was visiting my best friend and I was carrying my Mono Neverful MM and my friend said "isn't this the brand of bag that prostitutes carry"? Well... I was so speechless.. I couldn't get a word out.
When I previously posted this one of the tfp replies was "only the good ones". This fabulous reply still brings a smile to my face every time I think of it:biggrin: I only wish I'd thought of it at the time.....

It's so hurtful! People are so rude! I'm sorry that happened to you.

I would get upset too if it was me. Its obvious you didnt like to respond but she still persisted. Obviously, she doesnt know what respect means. Come on, get a clue! Some people can be so insensitive huh. Im sorry that she ruined your day.

There's also another point: security. I live in a very dangerous city and in a country where most of the population doesn't really have much money. I love monogram, but every time I carry a monogram bag I get paranoid if I'm walking alone. I still carry my monogram bags, because I love them, but it takes quite some nerve.

I found this so enlightening. Thanks for sharing!!

Actually back in my native country there are lots of fake LV and mostly are monogram. I used to tell my mom that I would even be more comfortable walking around with my speedy with them probably thinking its another fake lol. She was telling me that my sister didnt like LV because of that but I do...and this flaw could be used at my advantage.

This is hilarious!...But I want to clarify something right now. That is not how I paid for my Louie. [emoji4]

Well, to be honest..It's kind of lonely being LV-lover/ Lux handbag lover where I'm from. I live in Norway and for most Norwegians outdoor activities are highly valued. Skiing, hiking, cross country skiing, hunting, kajaking ect. People here spent a ridicilous amount of money on sports gear, clothing and goods. Nobody seems to lift an eye brow if you tell them you bought a new sports jacket worth $600 or a new pair of randonne skies ( Down Hill Skies) worth $2,500:wtf:..Insane right?!

Handbags on the other hand..Most people don't seem to get the joy and excitement I feel when I get a new bag og stroll around with one of my arm candies. Most people don't get that I am rather spending my money on bags and not on skies:lol::lol: So I'm soooo happy to be part of the the Purse Forum where I can show off and talk bags all day long without any judging

Gosh, you are so right! I didn't think about it that way. This is especially true when it comes to very popular models, like Neverfulls and Speedys. I think I'll still be kind of paranoid when I'm wearing my Tivoli, but I'll certainly be more relaxed when I'm with my Speedy B!

I've been using designer bags (non-LV like Prada and Balenciaga) for two years before I have decided to buy an LV. My first LV was a Speedy B 30 in monogram. I noticed that people react more to my LV than any other bags I've worn. I get varied responses. Some love it, some just made it a point to let me know that they've noticed I'm wearing an LV. Some just managed a lingering look at my bag. It worries me sometimes that wearing an LV might be bordering on tacky. It's the most copied bag (replicas abound in a great number) and the most carried bag among the social climbers (oooops! harsh!). But I couldn't stop buying LV after that first purchase. I love how light it is... I love the canvas. I love the fact that the styles are classic and have withstood the test of time. After a few months of not being comfortable wearing it because of fear of the varied reactions of most people, I ended up buying more LVs (and nothing else) and saying WTF! I love LV and that's me! So who cares?!!

Hi, everyone!

I'm wondering how do people close to you react to your love for luxury items in general and your love for Louis Vuitton in particular.
I'm having a bit of trouble on that matter. My boyfriend doesn't really judge me or anything, but my mother does and I don't have the guts to tell her the price of the things I buy. Most of my friends don't have a lot of money (and I also don't, I just saved a lot for my purchases) and I'm really embarrassed to go out with them wearing one of my LV handbags, especially the monogram ones -- and even with the damier ones I just keep hoping they won't notice it's LV.
Does anyone else experience this? This is annoying and embarrassing.

Please don't let anyone steal your joy. You have good taste and you're curating a collection that will serve you well for many years to come. Handbags aren't everyone's "thing" and that's fine; you shouldn't have to justify or explain your passion or obsession to anyone.

People that "know me" know for damn sure I could care less about their opinions or perceptions; I'm lovable like that :)
