How did you first hear about Hermes?

I first discovered it when the Charlotte, NC store first opened (back in the early/mid-2000's). I popped in because it had such an elegant vibe and smelled absolutely heavenly! The SAs I encountered were very nice, and I clicked with one. I was still in college then, so my purchases were small (agendas, twillys, belt, etc.). Ever since then, I have loved the brand! The store closed in 2016, which was a huge bummer, but it was lovely while it lasted :) Maybe we will have another one day.

I always remembered Hermes is a very pricey luxury brand and during my years in my home country (when I was younger) I have never stepped into any of the stores. Fast forward to my living in AU, my SIL was keen on some pop H earrings then so I followed her in to the boutique for the first time and I started to get curious about the brand and get myself familiar with it, know what I like and starting to buy. Im not in a financial position to afford a QB at the moment so not really playing the "game" but I enjoy my journey buying what I like, had 2 good SAs (1 from each store in my state) but decided to go with one of the 2.

I was disappointed I didnt get the non QB I wanted last year for my birthday as I always got one every year since I started buying despite waiting for awhile (just 8 months not too long but it was quite long for me). With the recent PI, I decided to remove the non QB from my list and decided to put my funds for my year end holiday. I still love the brand very much but since my store doesnt really have items I would love to purchase, Im looking forward to visiting other H stores during my holiday and see what I can get and even consignment stores.

I always remember being aware of Hermes since I was a teenager in the late 1990s for their scarves and ties...bc there was a boutique in the "fancy mall" that we would walk past on our way to Coach and American Eagle :P

But what got me first "introduced" to the brand I think was one of the "show my your wrist stack" forums on TPF as I was browsing around about 15 years ago, and immediately fell in love with the classic CDC....which was my first purchase: graphite matte gator with PHW, and a black rivale double tour to match... at the same boutique in the "fancy mall." and i haven't looked back since!

For me, it was in 2004, when the press ran this picture of MS arriving in court:

As a late-teen then, I thought this was amazing (obviously not understanding the nuances of what was happening) and could not have ever imagined that a bag could cost >$1K, let alone 10

From Vanity Fair: "Stewart’s request to the courtroom sketch artist that she be drawn with “no pockmarks [and] perfect skin”; and Stewart’s accessories, including the cushions brought into the courtroom to make the hard benches more comfortable and her vintage Hermès Birkin bag, reportedly valued at as much as $12,000, which she defiantly carried into the courthouse each day in spite of all the bad press she received because of it just when she needed all the good P.R. she could get. (Stewart refused to leave the purse at home but stopped carrying it into court herself. It was placed in a box of legal files, which an aide took into the building and delivered to Martha away from the cameras)"

Thank you @rumes ! A lot younger and at least twenty pounds thinner lol Back then, I thought of a single bag as the impossible dream :D
ETA: I just realized the tie gift was in 1985 and the date of the pic was closer to 1989…

I see there a delicate young girl, with eyes sparkling with excitement for the tomorrows... How wonderful that in the time that has passed hat young girl has transformed into a magnificent woman… with an amazing companion by her side. May you always be happy.

I honestly don’t know. I remember buying my first scarf in the late 90’s - it must have been Sex in the City for me, I cannot think of any other way I would have heard about Hermes.

I think I was in high school at the time—back then, the most elite young girl of our newly-of-age nation had been spotted in a magazine with a Himalayan Birkin. Normally, I’d find it pretentious for someone so young to carry such a bag(in negative way) , but there was something different in that image… a sense of someone who already felt like she had walked the path of life.

In the years that followed, I started university, and one of my classmates showed up with an Evelyn bag. I think that’s when the H models began to enter my life—at least in terms of knowledge.

I made my first H purchase at 28, right after moving to Paris, at FSH. The first item I bought was a Gavroche... Funny enough, while buying the Gavroche, I had the audacity to ask, “I want a Kelly with the horseshoe stamp.” Of course, I couldn’t bring myself to visit the store for many years after that. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Today, after all the painful roads I’ve walked, I’m finally waiting for my Kelly with the horseshoe stamp. 🍀

Life. With gratitude and thankfulness.
