@Antonia I’ll check in with my progress-despite the fact that I’ve managed on far less clothing I’ve got an irrational fear that I’ll run out of clothes, so sometimes I’ll wear old pieces..and at the end of each season I have a clear out so my collection will change anyway.

I don’t believe I’ll do it..next Friday will be a test, and already I want the LBD, it’s only the 2nd July…

But I’ll try..I think next years trends will be more my style than this years, so I have a big incentive..watch this space!

@Antonia Omg I nearly didn’t last past the 7th July!!!
I went on my much looked forward to day out today, with all of my cards..
We had a great Italian lunch, I saw zillions of things I wanted..I came back laden with shopping..
I managed not to buy another watch or handbag..
I Did buy a very expensive perfume.
In Saint Laurent I fell in love with an outfit which I SO nearly came back with-I went back and Still wanted it, I’d definitely have worn it, it was in my generous budget….
In the end I remembered my no clothes rule, and bought a load of bedroom and bathroom linens etc, new bedding, pillows, towels , slippers etc etc and spent as much as the outfit on several bags of things…although I still want it..I nearly bought Valentino shoes, but was getting tired by then, and my next day trip is a day out in Harrods again in the beginning of October ..
I don’t think I’ll go 6 months without clothes, but I think I can do better than a week!xxxx

Ok, baby steps!! Would love to hear about your new perfume!! I need a new one myself. I'm sure many of you ladies have several perfume bottles, but I just like to buy 1 or 2 max because they tend to go bad after 6 months or so, so I don't want to buy more than that.

Oh, I’ve only ever worn 3 perfumes in my life-it’s not a “new” perfume, it was a refill, but still expensive lol!
It was Kilian Roses on Ice, I love it, but it doesn’t stay on all day..so it’s a bit of an extravagance tbh, I didn’t intend to buy it, and they actually had a large jumbo one which worked out far less expensive, but seemed a huge amount to spend on perfume, although in hindsight I wish I’d bought the 250mls carafe..

I never have several as I’m very brand loyal..as in everything I buy.
Btw I think I recognised a Zara jacket in your OOTD lol!

Yes that’s the one!
Years ago, I had a navy real Burberry one..I thinks it’s so funny when I see Zara(and other high street chains) knocking off designer styles-successfully …

I have a 23 year old very close friend-who I went out with yesterday ..I’m 55 but look and feel 20’s …what I wore years ago, she’s now buying in Zara as fashionable..to me that’s hysterical …

Just not this 1970’s revival as I was a little girl and my Mum was only just 22 when she had me and very fashionable , so she wore it all, so to Me it’s what my Mum wore..she and her identical twin (and my other friends) follow the fashion, but I stick to my own personal style..I spend so much it doesn’t save me Anything , it’s just a trend I don’t follow..maybe I look old fashioned I don’t care, but I’m an 80’s, 90’s gal!xxx

Yes I WOULD, I’d live in it..but only a week previously made a pact not to buy clothes for 6 months..decisions..shall I phone and buy it over the phone???(Its over an hours drive away)
It's a sensible idea to wait for six months but why. Is it for financial reasons and so maybe it makes more sense to wait.
Is it for another reason that maybe makes sense to waive the reason and order the outfit.
Is the outfit returnable if necessary; or easily replaced in six months by something similar, if you wait now?
Don't need to necessarily answer me but just things to ponder

I’ve always been a minimalist and literally had a dream capsule wardrobe of very high end rtw, and at some points couture /bespoke.

My lifestyle has changed, and recently (although I still buy bespoke pieces and high end rtw), I’ve bought a whole load of good quality but non top designer rtw..

I’ve got too many clothes, but they’re too good quality and fit too well to write off the cost, so to justify it(plus there’s a balance on a bespoke biker with Porusus crocodile in Japan and an outstanding account with my shirtmaker in Milan to clear), I need to have a break..

Then , with a clear conscience , I can start buying designer rtw again-I could afford the Saint Laurent outfit, in fact I spent more than that on perfume and linens, house things etc, it was just the principle.

To get back on topic of building my rtw wardrobe , I need to rationalise what I have, and get back on track…I felt a lot more comfortable with far less clothes with a much higher spend per piece, which is what I’m aiming for again in the future..

I hope that answers your question?Xxx

I always remember a comment that Tomas Maier (formerly of Bottega) said in an interview a few years back: 'Everyone can afford luxury, just have less.' It's so true! If I added up all the foolish $$ I spent on trendy Zara/H&M over the years...most of which have been consigned at this point....I could have a few (brand new, not second hand) exquisite pieces of clothing (or bags) that I would cherish for many years!! I need a Zara detox!!!

Oh here is the article but it's very long...if you want to read it:
