How did you afford your Cartier Love pieces?

Just curious how everyone was able to afford to their pieces and back stories. I've wanted a YG love bracelet for about 5 years now, and I was recently promoted so I finally (kind of) have the means, but I'm feeling so guilty. Like I should be saving that money, or I feel guilty that it could help so many people. I know this is a ridiculous thought but I can't help it.. ugh. So just curious how everyone justified buying, whether you saved for a few years, or just made enough in your job to not even think about it. Just FYI background, I'm 28, have a stable job, no student loans or significant bills, just trying to save for a house.
I guess I was lucky, because with the exception of two or three, I got almost all my Loves as gifts. Starting already in my twenties, my collection grew over many years. I could not afford them myself, when i was young, nowadays this is a lesser problem. I spend a defined part of my monthly income on fashion, bags, shoes or jewelry, and I stick to that budget (more or less), because I realized that "to travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive".

I badgered my husband for my love bracelet  We have a business, properties and investments, no children.

The love bracelet was actually an item that I always liked, but thought it was way too expensive to pull the trigger on. But after collecting handbags and falling out of love with the thrill of purses, I’m moving onto jewelry.

I’ve justified my love bracelets to the fact that I’ll be wearing it everyday for the rest of my life & hope to pass it down to my future kids. It’s a great investment if you plan on keeping it.
Ohhh I like this thought. The more I read this thread- it's pushing me to go get the bracelet relatively soon.

I’ve been working a lot at my full time job this previous year and have been balancing freelance work on the side, so I thought I’d treat myself to my first Cartier. This was the biggest purchase I’ve ever made for myself (as far as jewelry/fashion goes), so it was a proud moment for me.

I’m the same age as you, and see what you mean as far as using that extra disposal income in other ways that is greater, but it’s totally fine to treat yourself as well! We’re very fortunate that we are able to pay for all of our necessities and also have extra income to donate to organizations and causes that we’re passionate about. Just do what feels right for you.

I decided to keep my luxury bag limit to 10 and switch to fine jewelry. I have been looking at van cleef and cartier for years now.

I couldn't justify getting the bracelets as presents since we have a toddler and a newborn, so I sold my Chanel WoC to reach the 10 bag limit. The rest of the money I got from day trading (not my job, I quit work to watch the kids). I ended up getting 2 cartier sm one in YG and one in RG, from the gains.

Great question! I too waited and waited to buy one and finally just over a year ago I did it. I always spent my money on bags or watches as I felt they justified the cost more than just a bracelet. But I was wrong. These bracelets (yes I now have two, plus a JUC and a Bulgari Viper) are the best thing I have ever bought. They are comfortable, I wear them everyday (obviously) and they go with everything. Cost per wear is better than anything else you will buy.

Yes, they are expensive but you are on the Purse Forum so assuming you have the means or the mind to one day gain the means to afford them.

I also think if you don't spend your money frivolously, you will be able to afford it. Calculate how much all of the little things add up to. Coffees here and dinners there (pre-covid), trendy clothes, etc. It all adds up.

Ok last point, advice I now live by, don't ever settle for anything less than what you want. If you do (and this is from personal experience), you will still end up buying the item you originally wanted. Plus you now have the original item, so you have spent much more than getting exactly what you want. Work hard, save up and get it! You only live once and if you are fiscally responsible then go for it. A house and kids will only make it that much more difficult to justify.

I absolutely love mine. I see the value in them and I can't wait to get another one.... as I try to justify the pave bracelet. Good luck!!

I had some personal savings back back in 2012 after buying my first home. At the time, a regular Love was $5600 AUD - that was alot of money back then, the most expensive item I've ever bought - I bought the love in RG. I started my collection in RG (bought a love ring and a necklace). Then I fell out of love with RG and really wanted YG so my sweet sister offered to buy my collection so I can restart my collection in YG (she is fairer than me so the RG really complimented her).

By the time I started my collection in YG, the price of the love bracelet increased to $7100 (from memory). The following week it increased to $8000.

Fast forward a couple of years later, the small love was introduced. One weekend I convinced my husband to take me to check it out cause I was sure I would be buying the small to go with my regular love. When I was there, trying on the small love, it didn't make my heart sing. When I tried on the small love in pave, it was a perfect pair! My husband told me to buy it and that can be my lifetime gift for anniversaries, birthdays and valentines. To this day, no regrets. Everytime I look down to see the regular and small pave love, it makes my heart sing.

I also need to save up for these things for a long time. But what I also did was selling everything I didn't use/need anymore and did not buy things I didn't really need (clothes, bags, shoes etc.). That really adds up! So last year I was pregnant and I still wanted the bracelet and thought it would be a good push present (good excuse) and that one day I will give this to my daughter. Every time I now look at my wrist it reminds me of her and she is always playing with it when she sees it. I always say to her that one day she will get it  and it really makes me smile and happy. It is the most expensive jewelry item I have, but also the one that makes me the happiest.

We did get our new house and got married in the last few years, so that was a big financial responsibility and I also could not justify my Love at that time. But I thought if I do not get it now, I will not get it in many years to come. I now spend much more money on my baby girl then I do on myself (or save for these things). Priorities change, but if you can I would say get it.

I love this story!! I'm trying to learn more about investing, so this is goals for me.

I live rent-free with my parents and I'm in no rush to move out any time soon. I have more than enough for a house deposit, lots of savings and a good job. However, even though I'm very fortunate to be in a position where I could buy the Love bracelet tomorrow if I wanted to I just can't bring myself to do it. The only luxury items I want are the Love Bracelet and a Chanel Classic flap and what stops me is constantly thinking about how many people could be fed on the cost of those items, people in my own neighbourhood struggling and also with my parents growing up poor, I don't think I could ever justify it.
So yeah I'm very conflicted and not sure what to do.

Imo you shouldn't have to apologize for your success and fortunate circumstances! You can still acknowledge that you are the beneficiary of privilege, but enjoy the fruits of your labor at the same time. Life is too short to go around feeling guilty all of the time. If it would ease your conscience, you can make a donation at the time of your purchase to your favorite charity, or take your parents for a nice dinner to thank them for all they have done for you.

I've actually been trying to get into day trading too! Seems like guilt free money
