How comfortable are you wearing your LV or other designer to church?

wow... good question... it never occured to me

but I must say when I go to church I notice that there are all sorts of people in all sorts of attire - but many will try to wear their "Sunday Best"

So I don't think it is out of line to wear a designer bag

I think it will look bad if you wear all these designer labels but then not give anything in the collections basket.. that would be really bad!

I'm actually really surprised by the comments on this thread - it tells me something about contemporary (I'm assuming primarily Christian practices) that I simply didn't know. My religious backgroud is primarily conservative (small, midwestern churches) where it is important that you dress a certain way to worship (respectfully and conservatively, logo bags would be out of place). People seem to be interpreting that as some sort of social snobbery, but think of all of the faiths in which worship and the faith itself requires a dress code. In many cases, it's considered to be respectful to God to set away material wealth or possessions to focus on worship. I'm not saying everyone sees the world the same way, but I wanted to put in a small plug for my point of view (and the view of the OP). There are devotional rationales for setting aside the handbags at church on Sunday that are not immediately hypocritical.

I think it just depends on the heart.
Many women invest in quality handbags because they appreciate the workmanship, style & durability, not just to "show off".

I live in an affluent community and don't think any more or less of the gals wearing Coach signature, or LV. I belong to a church who traditionally looks unfavorably at jewelry and make-up, but I think that's all superficial & petty. It's the heart that God looks at; we mere mortals have no business judging others on outward adornment.

Good grief, is that what we need to be concerned about? Heaven's no!

Thanks all for your reply and it was interesting to know your opinions. I have never worn my high-end bags to church before. Don't get me wrong, but I will probably stick with my regular bags. I am confident in myself and I always dress my best for the Lord, but don't want to draw attention to materialistic things.

I don't get this whole self-inflicted guilt trip. I never feel uncomfortable carrying any bag I own- not in church, around poor people, rich people- whatever. It's mine, my business, no one else's......why in the world would ANYONE feel uncomfortable carrying a THING like a bag ?? It's just a THING- shouldn't matter how much it costs....... just my opinion.....

ITA, and to add people at church should not be concerned with what someone is wearing anyway...

I encourage it!!!

It was because of church goers like my grandma and her friends (as well as a few fashionista nun friends of theirs) that I even knew what a Chanel clutch purse was.

It is not a form of bragging what so ever, it’s only respectable to arrive to church wearing your “Sunday Best”. So wear your Sunday best that would include your best purse rotations!

I wear my bags (and jewelry and clothes and furs) wherever I go. I don’t give one care to what others think about my wardrobe because their opinions don’t matter.

I also don’t understand the false humility of hiding things you willingly spent money on from fellow church goers. If someone feels it was sinful, wasteful, egotistical, or whatever to buy the items, isn’t it hypocritical and a lie by omission to pretend they don’t have them when they go to church? Shouldn’t our lives outside of church be the same as they are in church?????
