How can anyone do this to us???

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

Even then, I've heard of a scam that involves buying the actual item from a store, and then returning a fake. The retailer doesn't usually know the difference. That's why there's a tag on some bags now that says "cannot be returned without this tag."

It is illegal to reprint and sell reciepts. LVHM (the company the owns Vuitton and others) currently have people designated to to put a stop to and prosecute these things.

Let me correct my previous post:
Anyone who buys EXPENSIVE items on ebay .........Sorry about that.

I buy expensive items on ebay. I bought a couple of chanel bags, Limited edition LVs and other expensive items and i do not have a problem with the sellers. HOWEVER, i bought these items above the retail price... at least about $300++ more than retail. :amazed:

I think the main thing is that the buyers should be realistic. Buyers should educate themselves on the items they want to purchase. If an item is in high demand and is selling for below the retail price on ebay, what are the chance that that item is authentic? Ebay is not for cheapos...:suspiciou
Don't hope that you'll get a great bargain when you shop at ebay!! :suspiciou

I think ebay is a good website when you want to buy limited edition, hard to find item. Ebay always have it! But I am also prepared to pay above retail price when i am seeking out those hard to obtain or limited edition items.... :smile1:

I think it is pretty low down to make counterfeit receipts. This makes it even harder for reputable sellers to prove to potential buyers that their stuff is the real deal.

I was surfing eBay playing my self-proclaimed "Spot the Fake Bag on Ebay" game when I stumbled onto a LV bag with an eLuxury invoice. From a far it looks real but I have shopped at eLuxury dozens of times and know its not real (one thing that gave it away was the font used in the body of the invoice). If I see it again, I'll link it here.

According to the receipt, the alleged bag was shipped so where did this seemingly authentic looking LV store bag come from in the picture? Sure enough, I did an eBay search and people are selling some real LV boxes (one sold for $75-I think), store bags, and dust bags. So, now the seller of a fake has the makings of what appears to be a real bag.

It's low down! I think I am going to  !

I try to stay away from ebay. You never know what you will get. The seller could have stolen pics along with the fake receipts. And ebay isn't interested in doing anything about it. This is why I will only buy directly from the designer or an authorized retailer.

i always get the urge to buy on ebay and then stop myself. i'm too afraid of getting a fake to go through with it except for with a handful of sellers that we've talking about on the board.

I've purchased bags on eBay but only kate spades cause I can have my BF and some other eBay sellers (like the one who made ihatecounterfeitbags.info) check it's authenticity. I never buy from sellers that don't accept returns if I find out it's not authentic. Receipts and tags don't mean anything to me....pictures do.

I haven't ventured to buying COACH or anything else online yet. I'd rather buy it in the store or outlets or department stores for that.

Superbaby...are you sure your bags are real? a friend bought a $9000 hermes bag from ebay which had reciepts and tags authenticy, etc and when she contacted hermes about getting the lining repaired that she got her wedding ring caught on...They told her it was a replica. So just because you spend some $$ on a bag doesn't mean a it's real. I would not ever buy a designer bag on ebay. A fool and his money arre easily parted.

Yeah, even if there's a receipt and a box, what's to stop someone from switching the real bag with a fake. There's just so many variations on a scam, it's not worth risking that much money. At5 least here in NYC we have the luxury of having all the actual designer stores at our disposal to have stuff verified.

Ebay does not care. When it comes to making money, they can't think of enough new ways, like raising fees, and owning Paypal to collect more fees, but when it comes to claims about anything counterfeit or shill-bidding, or auctions gone bad, they always use that excuse, "We're just a venue. We just provide the auction space. We're not responsible for anything but taking as much of your money as you let us, blah blah blah." and it's infuriating.

For ebay to step in and actually do something conflicts with their profits, because the more an auction goes for, the more commission they make. So why should they do anything?

Ebay looks so white-trash with so much counterfeit stuff for sale, I've never seen the word "authentic" so overused and abused in my life.

classwhore you are so right. I am A ebay seller for some years now and in the last 3 Years it has gotten awfull on ebay. I have not seen A authentic Gucci Horsebit hobo listed in over A Year. You really have to know your Leathers to buy on ebay and should see the real thing in A Store before ever Bidding on one. If you have seen the MJ Bags and they give you close up Pictures you can tell by the Leather Grain. I have seen one sell that now has MJ Bags with RIRI zippers but the Leather is Pebble grain not like MJ Vegi Tan at all. PS I did not Have A Gucci Horse Bit Hobo But have some Pictures of the real thing if some needs to know what it should look like.

That's just shows how much crime is involved with anything that there is a high demand for. People out there have to understand that there are no deals with these bags; only buy from a reputable shop on or offline. There are scum out there stealing openly and they have a "market" for their crappy goods. If folks don't know better they'll go to those dealers in good faith. I think I believe the stories that knockoff items fund terriorist; it's not just hype. Da*n...I'm on a rant here!!!

I'm wondering what the purpose of having a "receipt" for a fake bag is?!! I mean, if your house is broken into and your fake a@@ed bags are stolen, can you show these to an insurance claims adjuster?! Talk about the "ultimate scam!!" I hope anyone who tries this mess ends up behind bars for fraud!
