Hello beautiful ladies,
Unfortunately we (my Husband and I) did not inherit vast sums of money, we never had a trust fund, we never earned over 5 figures in employment. We are middle class with a lower middle class income.
Many of my friends outside the Purse Forum poke fun at TPF for the ladies with $50,000- purses.
I however understand this is simply NOT the case. Many people here are very hard working and resourceful. Many collections on this forum are a lifetime of work and sacrife.
Today I wanted to show the younger people (I am early 50s) how the choices you make can help with funds for more purses.
We drive a 2014 Honda Civic. It just reached 200,000 km (about 125K miles). The car has probably got another 200,000 kms left.
Instead of buying a German or European car we choose a Japan economy car. Great gas mileage, very reliable and it leaves the rest of the money for items we prefer. My husband has an amazing wrist watch collection...... I have some amazing purses and luggage.
It is all about choice. In a great country like America/Australia/UK you can decide what is more important in your life!

wow wow wow!

I think it's fantastic if some people can buy whatever they like, whenever they like, but I know they're in the minority. The rest of us can still enjoy luxe but just maybe one piece here and there, or one piece entirely. Either way, as long as the items are loved and enjoyed, that's all that's important :) What a wonderful collection you have and I bet you treasure each item!

Heres the thing and i won't get into life paths goals or at what age you should or should not think about luxury etc...

ill give you the why i work for them, i work a lot for my bags, but because i do they are a little something that i get to bring with me any where i want.i get to feel, and enjoy, and touch, and carry them all day long. some times i look up from my computer see my kelly my picotin or Vuitton and smile its all worth it, my vintage kellys are the ones that bring me more joy because i searched for them and got them when vintage was not all over the internet. *they look good but are like me middle age, 35 so middle age for me at least* any ways got them when i could not afford one at the boutique..... in essence as old or boring a this may sound, dream big work for it and the fact that you value your parents .... tells me anything you want you will be able to get.... best Birkel.

I assume the OP has figured a few things out in the intervening decade, but:

I work. So does my husband. I grew up in a wealthy family but they do not support us, and I have no secret trust fund.I have been a high-ish earner since my late 20s, he now also makes 6 figures.

we are in our mid-30s. We spent our 20s purchasing a very modest house which we buckled down and paid off in four years, before we were 30. We pay only property taxes, utilities, and upkeep now.

we drive modest cars (me a Golf, he a Tacoma). We both have side hustles that pay for our hobbies.

we don’t have children by choice.

there’s lots of everyday decisions that can lead to what you want. You just have to know what that is first.

I am a 1, 2 and 4. However, (almost) everyone has a budget regardless of their financial history or current resources, so it’s important to identify your priorities. If you are clear about what you want, it‘s easier to stay focused on your dreams and not waste time, effort and money living according to values (of society/friends/family) that have little meaning for you.
