UGH. Awful. I've worked in retail; this sounds like hell.

She did probably think she'd get away with some % off.

That said, I've chatted up SAs after buying a bag and they tell me all kinds of crazy stories -- people who try to haggle their way out of paying tax, or literally start bargaining "down" for the bag. It's ridiculous.

I once witnessed a woman in Publix opening bottles of foundation and testing them on her hands. She would then put the opened bottles back on the shelf. I mean....really ??? Oh I was SO mad. I tattled on her to a manager...lol, but all they could do was remove the ruined make-up and not say a word to her.

It is so sad that a retail establishment can't protect themselves, and that the woman got away with her behavior. I went up to her and told her exactly what I thought of her. She was not the least bit ashamed. She seemed to think it was her right to "test" the foundation colors.

Some people....

Judging from her crazy behavior, I would not be surprised if she's faking her military identity. It's not hard to get a military discount without being in the military! When I shop at places that proactively advertise the military promo i.e. Home Depot and Lowe's, and some car repair places, 9 out of 10 cashiers would say, "Oh no no it's okay" when I handed them my ID... don't know why.

Agree she doesn't sound new to Coach, could even be one of us reading this thread now. Ugh! I don't think I could hold my tongue if I ever see someone treating others with such disrespect!

What a CHEAP and rude B---- !
Asking for what, maybe a 25% 0ff of $158 retail (if they were even the full price, since they are half off now.)
NO EXCUSE for such ill mannered behavior ! Plus it sounds like she made a fool out of herself.
She should have just bought them and shut her rude a$$ up.

Today I was visiting my local boutique and I couldnt believe the way a customer was treating the SA. The customer was buying a pair of nadias on sale, and was asking every SA (we were the only two customers in the store today) and every manager if they could give her a military discount or any other type of discount. After much debate and after walking around and wearing these shoes for about 30 minutes (which she should have to pay for them then by default, she practically owned them) she asked about PCE, which the SM replied that there wasnt one going on right now, and the customer asked why she hadnt ever received one before. Well it turns out the customer had never shopped full price before or really shopped with the company before at all, which is generally how you get them, at this point the customer was making a huge scene, yelling at the staff, and slams down the box of shoes on the counter saying she's not going to buy them because she's not "preferred" enough. Does anyone else think this is absolutely ridiculous? For one a grown woman acting this way in public, but to treat an entire staff of people like that, who are just doing their jobs. Has anyone else witnesses anything else like this?
I don't even... I'm not sure if I'd talk to that strange customer or just back away slowly.

I work retail....this is a pretty normal thing to have happen, unfortunately. At my store, if a customer requests a discount, I have to give it to them. If they go to corporate saying I denied them a discount, I'd get written up.

It's sad that most companies don't stand behind their policies. If they did it would prevent price increases, low staffing and lack of product. A few bad apples ruin it for everyone :(

I could go on but that's a discussion for another thread, lol

I was happy that the store manger was able to keep her cool and a smile on her face the entire time this customer was acting crazy, while trying to diffuse the situation. I still don't understand how the customer couldn't grasp the concept that in most stores or wherever you're more likely to receive special offers the more you shop there, it's not rocket science. I also wanted to share this experience because we all know what it's like to deal with rude or snobby sa's but I'm sure they have their own lot of crazy customers to deal with.

My poor sister just quit a job after putting up this type of abuse day in and day out. She worked in a call center for a company that sells online and through catalogs. She seemed to get nasty people every day, and company policy made it so that she was not allowed to hang up on someone even if they were verbally abusing her. Hell, she wasn't even allowed to hang up on perverts who would call and masturbate over the phone! To top it off, the company's response to customers who would call irate and abusive over a problem with their order was to give them free stuff, so they were rewarding this awful behavior. She said she was starting to think that people were calling and being mean purposely just to get freebies. She was getting headaches every day from this job, and she would dread going to work. The other day, she got a customer who was so horrible that she finally cracked and quit. She said she never felt that the higher ups ever had her back and were more concerned with sales numbers and call volume. It's no surprise that this place has a very high turnover rate. They're always looking for new people.

Your poor sister. I worked in a call center in the mid 90s. Awful, awful job. I would get sick from nervousness before having to go onto the floor and take calls. A lot of call centers have a high turnover rate from what I understand. It really is a thankless job.

And this is why I've always tried to be as nice as possible even when I'm calling to complain! I've had friends and students who've told me horror stories like these as well! Even before that though, I've always told myself to calm down first, that no matter how upset I am over something, it's not the fault of the person who answers the phone! I always try to be polite, and I've actually ended up with some nice conversations with people in call centers. :D I've never quite understood how it could possibly be okay to abuse a person just because they happened to have picked up the phone to do their job! Our society needs to stop and think sometimes--would you be mean and horrible to your mother or sister or brother? Well, this person is someone's mother, or sister, or brother! Another human being with hopes and dreams and feelings!

HA, I'm one of those poor call center employees and what was said above is spot on. WE teach customers how to treat us and get what they want. People on the phones do what they can for customers and when they get ugly to us, swear, threatening, calling names, personal insults we just smile and stay on the line because there is no way we can reply back in the same way or hang up. I work in a call center, I can handle the losers that feel like we owe them the world it's the fact that once they are done with me they get a supervisor who will give in to their demands just to get off the phone, or because they are scared to stand behind what the rep told them in fear of them being treated the same way. it's okay for the customer to verbally abuse me however the supervisors can't take it and give in. I've been called everything from a B*tch to a failed abortion and it does get to you.
Thankfully there are kind customers as well and even when we can't do what they want (free products, waive the cost of their bill just because they don't feel like paying) they remain polite and professional. makes it all worth it. So remember that next time anyone feels entitled and thinks screaming and calling names will get what they want, it probably will but you just made another person feel like ****, hope it was worth it.

I think PCE's can be applied to discount items...at least I've purchased three pairs of shoes this way, with no problems.

You know something interesting happened. I was told I could use my 40% jax off on a sale item. She said it is now 82 dollars and I paid over the phone, when I got to the store, there was a wayyy different bag boxed and then I said- that is not the bag I ordered to come pick up, she then proceeded to say that they couldn't combine discounts. Call me crazy but I think that when manager realized of that transaction, since I wasn't there, they changed it on me and then fed me that story, I should of had that receipt emailed to me and not put in the bag, interesting I never got the original receipt either, since I said I didn't want that bag, coach SA kept it without me looking at.
