Hooray for the Halzan...

I think the Halzan is a great bag (and I might own one if the strap was just a little bit longer), but I do not see it as a classic Hermes bag. Honestly, the Bolide, Victoria and Evelyne are all more classic than the Halzan. It’s impossible to tell at this point how much staying power it will have or for how long H will produce it. So, get one if you love it, but if your main goal is to have a “classic” H bag to pass down to your daughter, you might want to look into a different model. JMHO.

i think i would tend to agree with this comment especially the point about noone would know what its staying power will turn out to be! however, out of all the newer H designs, i think Halzan has the most potential and I also would hope halzan can turn into one of the bags amongst a newer generation of H classic, since it is a very practical bag, yet very understated, and you can hand carry/shoulder carry and even cross body! it can even be used as a clutch, though i have not yet use it that way. it is also very light and functional.

I would highly recommend it! but trust me your obssession for H bags would not just stop at the halzan @labb8 :biggrin::biggrin:

Oh no! not sure how much longer I can use the 'I'll be passing it down to our daughter' excuse for.

I do like the versatility of the halzan and that is what caught my attention.... It is basically 4 bags in 1, although, I don't like the thought of spending £4k on a bag which in a few years time may look dated.....Decisions. I'm not sure I can quite stretch to a bolide or Victoria.

btw, Victoria costs less than a Halzan but they are very different bags!

i would suggest go to a store to try them on and see which one sings to you! also, I would not worry too much about Halzan becoming dated yet since it was only introduced in 2014, if i am not mistaken.

@labb8 - I mostly agree with this. It is hard to say if something will be a "classic" before it's been around long enough, and the Halzan was introduced just in 2014. It does have a terrific design (sleek, capacious, and can be worn several different ways) and has an under-the-radar vibe that it shares with the Bolide and Victoria. I personally love this bag (I have one of each size), view it as trend-proof, and will probably get another 31 at some point.

My feeling is that if you love a bag and use it frequently, it is a classic to you, regardless of whether it is still being made X years from now.

Regarding color, what has worked for me is to look at my scarf collection (I have mostly a black/grey/navy wardrobe) and see if there is a fit for a new bag color. I have learned the hard way that if I have to buy a new scarf just to go with a bag, it's not going to work because it's a color that's not "me" and one I probably won't reach for very often (a huge sad mistake with an expensive bag!).

Hope this helps, and good luck on your journey.

Thanks. Yes, I do like this style and the only reason I'm concerned about whether it is classic is because I would like to give it to my daughter. But I guess I should concentrate on me rather than my daughter 10years in the future !

My darling husband has allowed me to purchase one bag and i think I've fallen for the Halzan big time! My question is, would you say this is a classic bag? I really don't want to spend all that money in a bag which may go out of fashion in a few years and I would like to eventually pass it down to my daughter (that's my reasoning for spending this much on a bag). I would love a Birkin but let's face it, that's never going to happen! I don't have a relationship with any SAs and preloved is more expensive than brand new. But back onto the Halzan, I like the 31 because I'll be able to get more used out of it and I love all the different ways it can be worn. So I know i want a 31 but I really can't decide on the colour and would really appreciate some help. The Hermes website is only showing the classic H colours but I like the idea of a bold but versatile everyday colour (does one exist?). I've not seen it irl but Black seems a little flat and I'm not keen on the browns. I have a trifold bearn in gold and a jige in Blue Jean so would like to avoid those colours. Would really appreciate your advice/opinions. Thank you.

I LOVE the Halzan. I think it looks great carried every single way: unfolded with the top handles, clutch style, shoulder, and crossbody. It's so versatile that at least ONE of its looks has to stay classic! It's not like the Halzan was made based on a trend, like how the early 2000s was all about hobos, or a couple of years ago was all about mini bags. The Halzan is just a versatile sleek design, and when you design ignoring trends, your design will last. Hermes isn't as trendy as other brands; many bag lovers find themselves loving older styles like the piano, which definitely looks of its time but still manages to resonate in fashion.

Also, fashion is absolutely cyclical! The Halzan has a similar foldover shape to the new "31" Chanel bag coming out for autumn/Winter 2018, and THAT "new" bag is based on an older bag from their archives. Mulberry also made a similar bag last year, so I think it's safe to say this style isn't going anywhere :)

Most of all, if you try it on and LOVE how it looks on you, you will not care if it's "in fashion." I have bags that were popular years ago but I still love to wear them because I love how they look by themselves and how they look on me!

Good luck and please show us if you decide :)

Thank you belle, you are so right. all 4 styles look great and I'm sure one of them will last. I bought a couple of the 'It bags' in the 2000s (Paddington and fuchsia Gucci) which I now cannot really use and do not want to make a similar mistake. Have learnt with age to stick to understated classic styles.

On the chat about Halzan becoming a classic... do you think if H makes a bag in exotic, it’ll become a classic? I just saw a black Halzan in croc on the French website and was bowled over

I’ve seen this bag too and it’s stunning in matte croc. I love my halzan but my honest opinion is that it is not going to be a Constance, that I consider a classic or a boliden. There might be a time when it will no longer be produced but I will still love mine because I enjoy the many different ways I can carry my bag.
