It looks so bad because it is a lot of upkeep and when people dye their hair this color, they tend to not style it at all. Colored hair needs to be styled into place so you don't end up looking crazy like a panhandler on the street. Her roots showing like that makes it look like a dye job done in you bff parents bathroom during a sleepover in high school. Gross. My hair has not been a "natural" color in almost 7 years yet I NEVER look this bad.
It's partly because it's not a dye, it's a stain. You have to wash your hair in cold water to help maintain the color, which I would guess she hasn't done by how much it has faded already. She'd have to be at the stylist every week to keep it that original bright color. Some people can pull it off, Hilary not so much. But if she likes it then that,s all that matters. I'm 37 and had mine colored purple, blue and pink underneath half of my hair. I've had a few thoughts of "I'm too old to get away with this" but I love seeing the pop of color when I look in the mirror so whatever.

That looks great! One of my friends is 36 and has similar highlights except hers are more raspberry on brown-black hair.

There is a gal at the exercise studio I go to who has the loveliest liliac highlights in her ash blonde/grey. She is mid to late fifties, maybe even 60s. She is really making me consider doing a few pink streaks.
For Hil, I think it would love so much better if it was brighter.

For sure. I don't understand why Hilary's hair looks so bad. Did she do it herself while drunk? Did Luca do it for her? I just don't get it. It's so bad.
