Hilary Duff Files for Divorce From Mike Comrie After His Wild Night Out: "He Totally Blew It," Pal Says

Celebrity News Mar. 2, 2015 AT 7:05PM

Hilary Duff finally decided to Wake Up.
Sources reveal exclusively to Us Weekly what exactly pushed the actress to file for divorce last month from Mike Comrie, following four years of marriage and one very amicable-seeming year of separation.

Duff, 27, filed papers on Feb. 20, one day after the Daily Mail reported about Comrie's behavior during a wild night out at Beverly Hills hotspot Mastro's.
A source confirms the report to Us, saying the former hockey pro was "aggressively hitting on" his waitress at the restaurant. The insider says Comrie was "calling her beautiful, telling her he wanted to take her out."

Comrie's advances, however, were rejected, which prompted him to go "up to another woman," the source says. The father to 2-year-old Luca then "drunkenly threw money at [the other woman] and asked for sex."
A source close to Duff tells Us that Comrie's behavior that night was the final straw. "Hilary finally realized Mike wasn't going to change," the insider explains. "He totally blew it and chose to live life like he was single."

Since the couple separated last January, the two have remained friendly and amicable, even spending Valentine's Day 2014 together. On multiple occasions, Duff discussed their split, revealing during one interview that she was holding out hope.

"I mean, if there wasn't a chance for getting back [together], I think we would've filed for divorce," Duff told The Kyle and Jackie O Show last September.

As for why she waited? Duff explained to Us Weekly last May that they were "not in a rush for anything." She noted: "We are just trying to enjoy our lives and figure out what makes us happy and it's working for us."

The single life looks good on her! Hilary Duff stepped out looking casually chic in L.A. on Friday, Feb. 21, the same day it was announced that she had officially filed for divorce from her estranged husband Mike Comrie.

The Younger actress, 27, and Comrie, have remained amicable since announcing their separation back in January 2014. The former NHL player joined Duff and the couple's son Luca, nearly 3, while shooting her "Chasing the Sun" music video in July 2014.

In addition, the pair were photographed holding hands while attending a Halloween bash in October. They dressed up in coordinating costumes, with Duff going as the tooth fairy and Comrie as a doctor.
In recent months, Duff has appeared to be spending more time with her older sister Haylie Duff. Haylie just celebrated her 30th birthday on Feb. 19, and is expecting her first child with fiance Matt Rosenberg.

"Happy early birthday to my beautiful sizer @haylieduff," Hilary wrote via Instagram on Feb. 18, along with a pic of the siblings with their mother Susan. "I will forever look up to you…And laugh my face off every time we hang. You shine so bright. (mommy I wuv u too!)" She also posted a photo that said "Love Me."
The following day, she whipped up some soup. She captioned: "Always makes ya feel better…"

Hilary Duff on Life After Divorce: 'I Don't Know if People Are Meant to Be Together Forever'

Hilary Duff looks smokin’ hot in short shorts and a tight jacket on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine’s April 2015 issue, on newsstands March 10.

Here’s what the 27-year-old Younger star had to share with the mag:

On her ex Mike Comrie: “Mike and I were very in love when we met. We both really wanted to get married. I’d been working since the age of 11 or 12, so making that choice at a young age seemed right for me. Maybe it wasn’t, but we spent the majority of our time together really happy. It wasn’t working well enough to stay together, but there was still a lot of love involved. It was just a slow set-in of us not being the match that we used to be. I’m lucky for the person he is and I am and how we decided to handle this.”

On Aaron Carter‘s declarations of love: “Him reaching out through social media? It’s ridiculous! But then people do it all the time, like Chris Brown and Karrueche? Come on, guys. Keep it between text messages.”

On her view of marriage post divorce: “I don’t want to sound bitter because I’m definitely not, but I don’t know if people are meant to be together forever. Things happen over a long relationship that you can’t always fight. A marriage of 20 years, the accomplishment of that must feel really great, but there are also huge sacrifices. I just always want to fight for happiness.”

She sounds sensible in that interview... Sounds like she's talking about me, I just broke off a 6 year relationship  We started dating when I was 18 and I have never experienced single life as an adult... Huge adjustment.

Wow that cover is a mess. What is wrong with her mouth and why would they publish such an unflattering photo with her mouth held open awkwardly that way?

I do like the 2nd photo, she looks really pretty.
