I bought a mini Eveline in new white color at Malpensa Airport and it also has a short shoulder strap compared to my other bag in Barenia leather. Perhaps Hermes changed the length of the shoulder straps because of the many complaints that the strap is too long. But I am tall and the new strap on the bag does not fit me.
The label says "Sangle wide" - it seems that it is a newer model where the straps are wider but shorter. If the purchaser had a chance to see and try it before the purchase, it is more of a change of heart (buyer's remorse?) or oversight, not H's manufacturing defect.
BTW, I would love to have these wider and shorter straps for my TPM. I bought mine at the FSH back in 2012. At that time, the straps are all leather but very long and not removeable. It is kind of too long as a cross-body bag for me, but as the straps are not removeable, there is nothing that I can do about it. At least for the newer models, the straps for the TPM can be removed and replaced.

I don’t believe the label says “sangle wide”. It says “Sangle W” which I believe is a cutoff of the normal Sangle Wooly (the label is listing leather type for the bag followed by “leather” type for the strap). And the strap looks to be the normal Evelyne TPM width. My guess is that they are making an Evelyne II version, like the Mini Lindy recent change to II with shorter strap.
This mini Evelyne came up on the EU website just now. It says the strap length is 85cm. My mini Evelyne (from 2019) has a strap length of around 105cm (110cm including the hardware), so it looks like they have shortened the strap on the current bags. It does say that the strap is "Wooly Short-Gurt", so perhaps there could be a long version out there as well? I am hoping!
I may be the minority, but I love the older TPM with the leather strap that is not removable.
My dear @chipotlenapkin, some feature may change with time. It this is the new strap length that was decided by Hermes, that will be it. I own a TPM from 2020, I will let you know how long the strap is, but it's definitely too long for me!
I haven't purchased recently but my TPM straps are all at least 105cm, with minor craftsperson variation.
I just bought a mini evelyne in gold with silver hardware and it says « short strap » on the invoice. My SA said she has never seen this before! It’s perfect for me as I am quite short so very happy with this change. It seems like a new feature on the evelyne
I’m not sure if someone has already responded. I just got my 2 mini Evelynes before the May 1 price increase. Yes, the straps are now shorter. Don’t be alarmed.
