He didn't exactly say...but seems quite a lot. When I was in SH my SA asked me if I wanted a Birkin, she said I will have to at least spend the same amount of the B before I can get a B. Not sure if that's true in Taipei though. [emoji29]
it is true. my friend had told me that when he asked about it. you have to buy the equivalent amount of a b or k in order to get one.

This happened a few years ago, always bothered me, so perhaps you guys can shed some light on it or it has happened to you.

My husband and I were at an Hermes Store inside the Taipei airport. I bought a scarf and paid by one hundred dollar US bills. The clerk said she cannot accept certain serial numbers because they have been flagged to been counterfeit. So she checked and accepted our cash, checks our passport and boarding passes...I think it was duty free at airport so she had to be sure we were leaving the country.

Then when we arrived at our gate, the same sales woman approached us and said she couldn't accept my bills now, and asked us to exchange for another set of bills. I said no, and she started to explain and protest, but I said to her that I didn't trust if she was giving us bad bills, so we just left her standing there.

It was the weirdest thing to approach us outside of the store.

Reason being in the 80s and early 90s there were very active counterfeits being printed on US 100 dollar bills. Counterfeits are so good most institutions were fooled by it. To this day when I go back to Taiwan if I need to bring 100 dollar bills I need to go to the local bank in USA and request the bank issue me newest 100 dollar bills issued by US Treasury.

However this by no means justify the behavior of H SA at airport terminal. She should've consult with her SM first before accepting the bills as payment

She did check bills and accepted them at the store. That's why it's so odd for her to follow us and request another set of bills at our gate. This was in 2010.

I wonder if she was trying to pass a bad set of bills to us.

i truly highly doubt that this was the case. And I'm not surprised that if she would have had to put in her own money had the store rejected those bills.

Think nowadays, they see more credit card payments or if not, local bills so think she just didn't handle the situation properly.

May I know whether Taipei H stores sell mainly on a relationship basis or if they would sell to tourists? Which store would represent the best chance for tourists, and would we usually have to hit a min amt before we are offered? Would like to get a K for my mum's birthday since I am going to be in Taipei in March.

I'm afraid it's all based on relationships...even though they'll tell u no minimum amt but I've read once that if you've accumulated spending more than the cost of b or k in non leather they will consider, the tough part is after you spend that amt, they may not have any during the timeframe of your travel dates

I was just at taipei and would like to share my experience to those interested..

Sogo store, not much interesting stock. for me. Lovely selection of evelyn with nice contrast straps. SA was cold, especially juxtaposed with Chanel SA next door.

Bellavita store, more stock. Had a beautiful red swift birkin Ghillies. drop dead gorgeous.. clearly marked display only of course.. SA was cold also. juxtaposed with Delvaux SA next door.

Neither of the stores' SA offered to show anything when asked, but rather stated that all was shown outside.

So I didnt bother to even go to regent gallery after google map trolled us and gave wrong address and directions..

BUT

Taoyuan airport t2 had great service and interesting stock (for Chinese New Years that they are celebrating) - I was able to grab quite a few things.

Their bags selection was good evelyn picotin victoria, etc. Nice cashmere and silk selection in the back, great twillys in the back. handful of dogons, and silkins.

Best of luck to those traveling in/from taiwan.

Sorry you had bad experience at the stores. The stores in Taiwan have limited bag quota and will typically sell to locals only. Nevertheless, it is no reason to be rude or stand off-ish to customers.

Am glad that you found something at the airport store.
