^ It is OK, I saw a Kelly while I was there but a Birkin seemed pretty impossible. The prices were also out of control, if you can I'd buy in Europe.

They do have Birkins, but they tend to keep them for 'special' customers. If you are a Russian celebrity, you have a good chance to getting one, but so much if you are a regular customer. Either way, you probably would not want to buy anything from there: their prices are around 50% more than those in the U.S. If you can, go for a Hermes store in other countries.

Many designer brands in ~Russia are overpriced, because people live in flats and cannot really invest in property, so the culture is to invest in clothes and looking cool. A woman there will first buy a good mink fur coat, only after that - a car (nightmare to drive in winter!). So retailers take advantage.

The tourist factor is quite true for most locations, not just Russia. At any rate, unless you are a visiting Hollywood celebrity, your chances of getting a Kelly or a Birkin in Moscow are minimal. It makes more sense to go to a store elsewhere anyway considering their prices.

Isn't a flat technically a property as well?

My husband just walked in and got a 35 black birkin.
Though price is much higher compared to US or Europe.
It's still cheaper than getting from other consignment shops in Hong Kong.
It's no chance to get direct from Hermes shop in Hong Kong.

It is, of course, but unless you are an abramovich type, you would not be able to invest in a luxury one, (the cost is insane) and a normal one would be in a very average house... not an investment as such, just to live. There are no big flats (except lux), a standard one is a three roomed flat about 80square m...
Better to buy luxury clothes...and a birkin. There in Moscow.

^ maybe they are less than single family homes? Just a guess, although a lot of people also have dachas I think?

Yes, but it is so cold in winter that dacha would be dormant for 6 months...Who needs that... and try to drive there first.:D It is not that chick to invest in property, as in the UK, for example.

Ok - that makes sense. I asked because this couple I know purchased two flats (separate floors) and merged them. This is in the heart of St. Petersburgh. But they (at least the wife) are uber wealthy - even by Russian standards.:p
