The commemorative laptop bag is not the one in the picture above. I modeled it. It’s kind of like Taurillon leather in a deep teal/marine color, rectangle, with rolled handles and two zippered compartments.

PALO ALTO, United States — Silicon Valley is a notoriously difficult market for fashion brands to crack. In a region that’s home to tech giants like Apple, Google and Facebook, and where the median income is over $96,000 per annum — the highest in the country, according to the US Census Bureau — cajoling consumers to buy into traditional luxury brands isn’t as easy as one might think.

Perhaps that’s because the standard-issue uniform is still the techie classic — a frayed hoodie and a pair of abused jeans, often worn with sneakers from venture-backed Allbirds. Status is instead symbolised in the form of company valuation. And sometimes, a car: The model-of-the moment, according to market sources, is a Mercedes-Benz "Sprinter" cargo van that has been converted to a custom limousine. (The richest, they say, bike to work.)

I think this is a very simplistic analysis of the situation. The Valley has a huge appetite of luxury goods; the Stanford mall, where the store is located, is supposed to be the most comprehensive luxury mall in Southern California. I went to the store Saturday, and it was teeming with customers. While it's true that people can be more casual, there are plenty of people who spend money on luxury goods. I think they made a great choice with this location, and I expect it to do very well.

Completely off topic but :welcome: back! Good to see you!

I agree that the location will be a good fit for Hermès, but for the sake of accuracy, the Stanford Mall is in Northern California.

And truly in the category of "don't know what they were thinking," Hermes called it the STAFFORD shopping center in their email invite that they probably sent out to a few thousand people this week, me included! HAHAHAHA.

I think it’s not just a couple thousand people... it must be Hermes’ entire English-speaking mailing list (I received one myself).

Interestingly, I had a paper invite with the exact same phrasing, but it was spelled correctly there.

It is shocking that they demonstrated such abysmal attention to detail though.
