Hermès Kelly Sellier size 32: Need Advice

I was offered a 32cm Sellier in Tadelakt GHW last month and initially didn’t even have them bring it out for me to see because my ideal size was a 28cm. When I went back the next time a week later they had it on display so I couldn’t resist “trying it on”. As I walked around with it (and I put one of the Evelyne 29 straps on it) it really didn’t feel or look that large. I’m 165cm and more athletic but petite build. To me the Sellier looks smaller than the same size in Retourne. It just doesn’t feel right crossbody because the handle hits in the ribs with the included strap. I don’t think you can go wrong either way.

I had a black sellier 32 in Togo and it was a little too big for me - but I'm barely 5'2" and really small-boned. I think you, being much taller than me, can easily wear a 32. Black with GHW is a classic, forever bag. You would be surprised how little a 28 sellier will hold.

Now for evening IMO any black Kelly Sellier can go to a nice dinner but no Kelly is a formal night bag unless you get down to mini K or maaayyybe K25 sellier. And as we all know, for black tie and white tie only a clutch is considered the classically appropriate bag. Of course, breaking rules can be fun! I take my mini Kelly in Box calf to black tie sometimes.

When I bought my first Kelly, which was a K28, I had the same feeling i.e. I was not sure about the size. To me the K32 is the perfect size with more classic proportions. But as we all know getting a bag in all your specs might never happen at Hermès, so I took „my little one“ home. And after debating for days I had to learn that there is (at least not for me) the one and only perfect Kelly size. In the end I „had to“ get another one to find out that on some days I prefer a K32 and on others a K28. When I finally let go of the illusion that there might be one perfect size I fell madly in love with the K28 and have since then lived happily ever after with two Kellys (well, except for debating, whether I should add a Sellier Kelly and/or a Heritage leather Kelly to my collection)...

I start to understand, why people have the same bag in severely sizes, leathers, hardware choices, colors, as in fact it is never the same bag :blush:223789B0-08B8-467A-B5A9-883665669C32.jpeg

I'm waiting for the exact same bag - congrats!!

People are showing you Retourne 32s which are nothing like structured Sellier 32s.

1. Both 32 and 28 Selliers are day bags. If you want cocktail/day-to evening your will prob have to go down to a 25 or smaller.

2. Unless you're very slim or very curvy, your height sounds right for a 32 Sellier.

3. I'm totally biased. K32 Sellier is one of my favourite H bags.

Thank you so much for this! I do feel because I am tall the size would look so similar to the 28 prob wouldn't be able to tell much of a difference lol. I am feeling more confident about my decision :)

This is very helpful! I do feel the size looks well with my height/weight. I do love how elegant the style is too, I am also biased (although I feel people favor the Birkin more).

My opinion only- I don’t think K28 is appropriate for an evening bag. Should be smaller or a clutch if dressier occasion.

I think K32 for day is ideal for capacity; can fit everything like hand sanitizer, gloves, hat, hard sunglasses case. etc. K28 if you don’t carry much.
You are right about the 28 not being evening either. Thanks for your feedback :)

I agree with other posters. I'm 5' 6 and for me the kelly 32 is the classic size. If you're only going to have one kelly keep it. I use it for informal nights out, dinner etc. I use a clutch for more dressy formal events. However, in your heart if you think it is too big, and you want a smaller kelly, return it. I had the same dilemma with a seller 35 kelly, and in the end I sold it as it felt like a work bag and I preferred using my birkin 35 for the same purpose.

I have a Kelly Sellier 32 in Epsom and I think it's the perfect size for my 5'5" frame. I carry it during the day but also for informal nights out. I agree that a small clutch is more appropriate for formal events.

So I worked the courage to actually email my sale associate about the size. He said no 28s are available bc they are low in stock and to keep it (of course he would :)).
You all have helped me realize how much I love the bag and I think it will be perfect for using it during the day and the occasional evening dinner out. I also think w my height the two sizes won’t look that different. I agree for formal evenings I need a clutch. Thanks so much for your help :)
