Hermes In Consignment Shop

There is a consignment shop in New Jersey (US) which sells only high end merchandise and sometimes they have Hermes bags. THey guarantee authenticity. I believe they currently have a black Kelly but don't know how much.

I've seen Hermes from time to time in Consignment shops around Wash DC (big $$ town) but never, EVER trust them because when I speak to the SA's they seem at a loss for every aspect. Scary. When asked about authenticity concerns, they are usually way too blase' about a 7k price tag. No thanks!

hey everyone!! i am new to this site and posted this question in the wrong thread...can any of the experts tell me if the have ever heard of the store or brand of handbag called "lederer"? my cuz went to nyc and saw this store on madison ave and they carried high quality leather handbags that look identical to the kelly or birkin...i for one will save up for the real thing but was just curious if anybody knew of this brand...thanks for the input...and i LOVE this site!!!

Not all consignment shops are created equal. It's rare to find Hermes. Trust me, I've looked.
The shops I patronize price at 1/3 original retail, and have a 50/50 split. Purses depriciate too quickly. I like stores that only stock seasonal merchandise, but those are harder to find. The higher per capita income, the nicer the merchandise.
Where things become interesting is either 1) if they have an end of season sale or other fun sales, or 2) if the appraisers don't know how to price. I'll never forget the shopping trip where I found BV bags for $25 and Coach for $90. Nice if you are a customer, but I wouldn't dream of consigning there.

Are there any really good consignment shops for Hermes in NYC? I've heard of one or two, but whenever I go in, they seem to be cleaned out. Thanks for any help.

OMG! Where in London?

Hi Happy343

Just saw your post and would suggest extreme caution with dealing with consignment stores in London. Most of the consignment stores and there are several around the back of Harrods do not have the items authenticated, nor the ability to authenticate themselves.

I am aware of a reseller who recently purchased a particular Birkin from a London consignment store that actually has a good reputation for selling authentic, where she was guaranteed that the item had been purchased in Hermès (the usual story of someone bought it for her in XXX etc) and yet the bag was blatantly fake - sadly the seller, herself not an expert in Hermès purchased the item in good faith and could have ruined her reputation had she not got it authenticated herself.

I noticed on another thread Happy343 where you mention H. Nicks - Can I just advise you of another story I was recently told, where a seller purchased a Chloe bag in store, obviously not for one second considering it was anything other than authentic, only to discover later it was fake .... you may wonder how on earth this is possible? H. Nicks, along with some other stores, will offer 28 day refund or credit notes on items and once returned, they are unable to authenticate the item, therefore a good faker can do a bait and switch on the unsuspecting SA who then resells it to another buyer thinking she is selling the real deal - for the unsuspecting buyer who believes he/she has bought authentic, after all its from one of the best stores in London, trying then to prove that they sold you a fake bag is like trying to pull teeth. Very scary I know .....

There is a consig. shop in Paris called Scarlet she has many kellys including crocs and birkins. The kelly crocs go for about 6,000 EUR, the birkins (plain) for 9,000 EUR, Very high.....and they are all used.

I shop Michael's often and sometimes resell there as well. They are extremely particular about what consignments they accept regarding authenticity and condition..rarely do you find junk in there. They do often have Hermes and Chanel bags as well as shoes and clothing...they have their own mini-departments. I find Michael's much higher end and knowledgable than Encore or Bis. Their prices are high, yes but I always feel confident buying from them vs. the others in the area. I have never purchased an Hermes from them but have seen Kellys there on occassion..usually in the case in the front of the store. They go quickly so it is a good idea to establish a relationship with the store so you can be informed of when these items arrive. They will not hold but maybe will give you a ring...also, it living in the area, check weekly..you just never know what you will find there.
