An old thread but wanted to revisit this discussion...
Recently visited some stores in Beijing and with the exception of one store the service was pretty good. The stock was even better.
Never had I seen so many Lindy's in different sizes and leathers on the shelf - not even in Paris. Across 3+ stores in Beijing. Saw two grizzly's, an ostrich and various colours and sizes in swift and clemence.
Also some nice sizes and colours of garden parties and toolbox. And good small leather goods!
I was EXTREMELY TEMPTED to say the least... Wouldn't have minded a lighter swift Lindy to replace my heavy clemence one. And don't have to wait or play the games like in other stores - even in Paris.
Yes prices are expensive. On par with Japan and Australia without tax refund. Which actually to be quite honest I think is fair. It's Hermes.
Which brings me to 2 points of discussion -
1) To be honest probably the only thing that stopped me from buying was the concern that the goods may be really good fakes. I know my H goods well but wouldn't guarantee authenticity based on my judgement which is why I only buy from H stores. But there have been rumours and apparently "news" stories of fakes being sold in the store. I'd be interested to know what's your take on this? Would you be concerned? Are these just urban myths?
2) Given the good stock and I think relatively reasonable prices especially compared to resellers particularly in HK such as the various "stations" (Milan, VIP etc etc) I don't understand why local Chinese don't just buy in China? Is it the concern about fakes? These are wealthy people anyway with money to burn. I seriously doubt a couple of thousand USD more than prices say in neighboring HK or other countries (France aside) would matter much to them if it meant they could get the bag faster in a desired colour and size ... Thoughts?
1. I wouldn't worry about that. In China, people actually tell a different version of the urban myth, that H stores in other countries would sell fake to Chinese customers. I don't believe either version. If this is really happening, I expect to see it on the news, not just through the unofficial internet forum discussions.
2. Some (actually more than just some) local Chinese still buy in China, but they will also buy H when they visit other countries. There certainly are others who are not THAT rich therefore will only purchase H elsewhere just to save that couple thousand dollars. I personally know quite a few people who have purchased B/K/L from H stores in mainland China. The SAs there don't play games, if they hope you to purchase other items from RTW, Fine Jewelry or housewares, they most likely will just tell you that. I personally prefer that way rather than playing the endless H game.
I just read an article about H stores selling fake bags in China and even in Europe. I wonder how true is that?
Who authored/published these articles?
I saw it in a Chinese article. You can PM me if you like to see the article.
It would be great if you could post a link to it here so everyone could read it and judge how credible they may be.
I personally wouldn't place too much reliance on this site.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wen_Wei_Po#Credibility
The credility of Wen Wei Po can be shown in the survey conducted by the Department of Journalism and Communication at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, entitled "Press Freedom and Political Transition in Hong Kong:A Summary of the Hong Kong Journalist Survey 1996". Wen Wei Po gained a mean of 4.68 mark, where the maximum mark is 10, among local media organisations. This placed it at No. 24 of 29 organisations. ... RTHK reported that, four separate public surveys had been conducted in 1997, 2001, 2006, 2009, by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Wen Wei Po is ranked near bottom on the media credibility scale in all four occasions.
Also, when you read the article, it's actually talking about supposed fakes being sold in the UK and Europe stores, not the Beijing store.
