Hello! I am not sure if it is the right thread to ask but I am waiting for my first QB.
My wishlist is K25 sellier epsom phw.
My SA also suggested to add box leather to my wish. As it would be my first QB, could you give some advice which leather I should prefer? Epsom seems more durable and scratches less visible, but I haven't had any box leather before, so any advice very welcome.
I love box, it is Hermes heritage leather and a classic, and it forms a beautiful patina as it ages, but if you care about scratches, then you should consider Epsom. Box is much more difficult to come around though, but it is more expensive also.

I would take box bc I love it, but I got a box bag a few months ago and I haven’t used it yet bc I am afraid it will scratch, while I use my Epsom bags all the time. I have vintage box which I use occasionally.

I love heritage leathers like box, but I don’t mind scratches (the only way to get patina). I have my box bags conditioned and treated by @docride (they don’t blister and I can wipe mine off). They also get H spa. (However, if you are uncertain that your bag will be accepted by H spa, it is most prudent not to use any outside professional) . New box from the boutique is substantially more money, so I would recommend getting authentic box in solid condition from resellers and buying Epsom from the boutique. But, I would try to see a bunch of bags in both leathers to get a sense of how you feel. Here are some of my box bags (I’m not sure if the last bag, an ardoise medor cdc is box leather, but I think it is)

I’m a recent newcomer to Epsom and it’s amazing. Mine has gone through rain and snow. And my craie Epsom Della cav has survived being spilled with curry and dessert (not at the same time). It looks brand new. Also, I once walked home with a glass bottle of sparkling water in my Epsom B 25 sellier. Unbeknownst to me, the bottle opened and flooded my bag with an inch of water. No leakage. And my SA suggested I dry it upside down on a wine bottle. I will admit that I’ve never had the scratches some people have, and my Epsom bag colors are not too drab. But, some really dislike the plastic feel of Epsom, and the relatively muted coloration. Epsom will never be lustrous like box.

Here are some of my Epsom:

I would read the ode to box thread here if you want to understand why some of us box aficionados love it.

Have fun deciding :)

ETA: I’ve heard from several sources that Epsom is box leather that is a bit imperfect. Thus slated for pressing and coating.
Box is also a bit heavier than Epsom if that matters to you

While updating wishlist SA was looking at phone and asked if I was open to ostrich. I said sure! But surprised because I thought they were moving away from it?
Orders for anything continue to come in for up to a year or more after orders are taken for the last time. Same reason why we will continue to see Birkin Sellier reveals despite the style being discontinued. Those orders were in the pipeline before the style was cancelled so are still produced to meet the original orders. And for Ostrich, I don't think its completely discontinued, they are just pulling back a bit for sourcing reasons afaik.

Hello. I recently sold my 35 clemence birkin. I carried it almost daily since 2007 alternating with my 35 croc birkin. I sold it because it became to heavy as I’ve gotten older. Now, I carry my croc daily, which is much lighter. Thinking about a croc Kelly 28 or 32 which I think will be more suitable since it has a shoulder strap and allows me to be hands free. I owned a Kelly cut and sold it because it was a hassle getting in and out of and I stayed annoyed. Am I going to have the same issue with the Kelly even though it has a shoulder strap? Does anyone over 60 still carry their birkins? I’m torn because I would want to sell my birkin to fund the Kelly. And if it doesn’t work out, I will never be able to afford another birkin. I’m 55 but this will be my last Hermes purchase before I retire.

I have a gator k28 retourne and it is heavy and feels almost the same weight as my B35 togo! I have croc birkins that are very light, so I don't know what makes the kelly so much heavier. In terms of using the kelly, I always leave it open because it is a bit annoying to get in and out if you close it.

I think if you don’t like the Kelly cut you won’t like the Kelly either. What about a croc Constance?

But I don’t think I’d give up my Birkin for a Constance though. What about a croc b30?

This is the feedback I need. I thought about the possibility of leaving it open. The Kelly cut couldn’t be left open. I think I would be ok with the weight of a shoulder bag and being hands free. Thank you 😊

I think I would if it wouldn’t be an issue leaving it open. I don’t have an issue with my birkin, just tired of holding it. And, as these brain fogs haunt me, I’m afraid I may sit it down and leave it.🤦🏽‍♀️ I like the Constance, but it’s really dainty and I’m not girlie girl. I’ve only owned matte crocs they’re more casual.
