Hi pegase_h,

This is interesting. So for men’s bags only, do they also not require an appointment for the FSH store? Thanks.

@dmor33, both FSH and George V require a leather appointment (whether it's for men or women). In Sevres, you do NOT need an appointment for men's bags. They will offer you whatever men's bags they have. Even in the JFK (NYC) and CDG (Paris) airports, men's bags are offered for walk-in clients.

@pegase_h Oh right, I see. I wonder why that is…
I am interested in getting a HAC 40 but I was thinking that they’d have the best selection at FSH, so was wondering what the best plan of action is. Do you happen to know what the selection is like at Sevres?

At Sevres, I asked K42 or B40 multiple times (across several days) and they did not have anything. They showed me random non-QBs that I was not interested in... Not sure if HAC 40 is doable at Sevres. But, you could try! :)

Since an HAC is a leather bag, it requires an appointment in Paris.

I think when the OP references "men's bags" he is referring to bags made out of canvas, cotton, silk, etc.

In the US, on the other hand, one could theoretically walk in and ask for an HAC (as long as that particular store doesn't classify HACs as quota bags). I saw this happen a few days ago in the store: people were asking for Kelly Depeches, Evelynes, Picotins, Videpoches...and the SAs said if we don't have one in stock we can put you on the waiting list for one [which is a different waiting than the "waiting list" aka "prespend" for a QB].

@pegase_h What is your opinion of this comment?

Were you referring to all men’s bags not requiring a leather appointment at Sevres, or just the cotton/canvas ones? :)

@dmor33 - I disagree on that comment. Because when I was at Sevres (and other "walk-in" H stores), I was offered random men's bags in "leather" (such as Victoria briefcase or hac a dos, etc.). I have never seen cotton or canvas bags for men's bags, except Herbag 39, which was half canvas and half leather....

@pegase_h Thank you for clarifying! It’s great to hear from guys who have shopped at the boutiques. There seems to be so much info online regarding getting bags for women but absolutely none for men.

Please feel free to address me in the first person, instead of in the third person...since you did post in reply to my comment.

Many people in pages before me have already debunked the whole "men's vs women's leather appointment" theory; you seem to have doubt in my comment?

A quick 2-second search on the website will show at least 5 men's bags not in leather: https://www.hermes.com/us/en/category/men/bags-and-small-leather-goods/bags/#| (and that's just on the website...God knows how many other bags exist), so not sure why you say there are no canvas/cotton/polyester men's bags??

I, too, have have shopped at Sevres and have direct experience...so my comments are not unfounded, as one may imply.

Alas, as with anything Hermès, everyone's mileage may vary and rules are meant to be bent/broken. Exceptions/broken rules are AMAZING (if you are lucky enough to have it happen to/for you) in Paris, but they should not be characterized as the norm.

Hi @FrenchNewbie , no disrespect was intended here. I was merely wanting to hear @pegase_h ’s opinion on your comment, seeing as he seemed to have had a different experience to what you had. I wanted to know what his experience was, and in doing so am not “doubting” your comment, just hearing his opinion.

Everyone’s experience seems to be different, and if he managed to be offered mens leather bags at the Sevres store then it seems there is a chance this is a possibility without a leather appointment.

I’m only new to purseforum, and at this stage I’m looking for people’s experiences in shopping at the Paris boutiques, particularly from a guys perspective, that’s all.

Gotcha!

@FrenchNewbie - I agree with you that H has lots of non-leather bags in men's section. What I was going to say was that when I was at Sevres (or other H stores as a walk-in random client, I've only been shown / offered leather men's bags and no appointment was necessary for men's bags. (Gosh, the writing here can be misleading even when I did not mean to...!)
