Hermes Bags and Gender

I think your initial question of 2 QBs in one appointment is leading us to a question mark here, given if you are speaking about a Birkin or a Kelly, a size 40 Kelly and a size 25 Kelly are not considered gendered bags, and are both quota. Do you mean a HAC? I've been told that's not a quota, so would not be relevant to your initial question.

If you are talking about bags Hermes considers "femme" bags or "homme" bags (e.g., Lindy, Della, Roulis, Herbag, Sac a Depeches), none of those are quota so not relevant to your initial question anyway.

I've taken my husband to my appointments in Paris, and even if he would want a bag for himself (he doesn't), it would not have been possible as he did not have the appointment.
If you wanted to buy your husband a gift, though, you could (in Paris at least); I have often bought a bag for my husband along with a bag for myself. The opposite, too (him picking up something for me along with his bag purchase).

I'm still confused, more I think now that this is a thread of its own :p : is this about buying 2 bags at a Paris appointment? About buying 2 iconic bags at one appointment? Or about purchasing two bags that are in different lines (men's and women's)?

Yes, could do, but not a QB if I am already buying one for myself.

If truly the question is "can I get two QBs in one appointment in Paris?" the answer is "highly unlikely".

Also worth pointing out that even though the Hermes website has bags listed under the Men’s section and the Women’s sections, they are the same bags. Men carry Birkins and Evelyns - it doesn’t make them a men’s bag. The Birkin will always be a qb no matter who buys it or who it is intended for.

The original question was very unclear, but yes if that is the question, the answer is "highly unlikely", although slightly more possible if, say, looking for a Birkin 40 and a Kelly 32, partially because the B40 could be considered "men's".

If the question is just about buying two B/K bags at once, though, then it has nothing to do with gender 🤷‍♂️ which would be veering off topic yet again :facepalm:ETA: I am trying to elicit the actual question being asked here. IMO, bags are not gendered, and I wish H would not segment them by gender.

I think we need to be careful not to get this thread off topic: this thread is for discussions about "whether bags have a gender or not", not discussions around Paris QB purchase rules/loopholes/etc. (hence why it was moved from the Paris thread) :P

My SA refers to my Birkin in the female gender which I thought was funny. I call it GMB35 lol

While I appreciate the comment, this is NOT true. In Sevres, men's bags do NOT require appointments. The SA in Sevres said that we only need appts for women's bags. Thanks.
And what bag falls in which gender categories for Hermes? For some it’s obvious as they are available on h.com but what about an HAC for example?

I still don't understand this. If you go to H.com, there are clearly bags under "women" and "men" separately. For those arguing that there is no gender for bags, there's no gender for clothing as well, right? (Sorry, but I take a traditional/conservative view for bags and clothes; I think it is ok that we all have diverse perspectives.)

PS. My thread led to this new thread. Ha, I feel embarrassed. LOL
Don’t be it’s a great topic in my opinion. Unfortunately easy to get passionate about 😂

For cloth I can understand the categorization a little bit as some physical differences are simply there for many.

When it comes down to bags there are no physical constraints and all comes down to traditionally formed norms. Which I personally would love to see change.

The question is a compound question. The query is 1) can you get 2 QBs and/or 2) A female and A male bag in one appointment based on Hermes’ gender characterization of bags, which may or may not be QBs. At least that is how I read the question. OP, please correct me if I am wrong.

In answer to the original question on how likely it is to receive 2 quota bags in Paris in one visit, it is very unlikely to receive two at one visit regardless of "gender." I suspect even bags such as the kelly messenger/men's kelly that you were seeking in previous threads will very likely be treated more like a quota bag. That said, it is possible to get two bags at one time, but only one can be "quota." I would doubt a kelly messenger (men's) would be sold to you at same time as a traditional B or K. None the less, if you do find yourself in Paris, enjoy it to the fullest and happy H shopping!

I would think it's also unlikely to get 2 bags in 1 appointment everything else aside. ...but I didn't read into the question as deeply as others... The topic of bags and genders is very fascinating! I actually shop in both the femme and homme section for bag and I actually name my stuff lol

Ie I gave my b25 a girly name but then I gave my car a masculine name... For me it depends what the item feels like if that makes sense (probably doesn't) 😂 it's not all bags are girls per se for me

Hi pegase_h,

This is interesting. So for men’s bags only, do they also not require an appointment for the FSH store? Thanks.
