Despite my reservations over the exterior clasp, I seized upon the opportunity to purchase the regular Arçon model, Noir / PHW. I'm undecided but I think I'm leaning towards returning it.
It’s a very distinctive bag in person - modern yet practical at the same time. The curved edges mean it holds a fair bit less than a “rectangular” bag but the craftsmanship is stunning. The nod to a saddle is also distinctly Hermes!
I love the slimline effect - despite having an open top it really hugs your body if you hold it in, and the inward curving top means no exposed openings (good for travel/everyday city life). That said, as soon as you pack it with something wide, the top also “widens” outwards (and the contents fall to the middle), and there is no zip/fastening to contain it, which I’m not sure I like.
I agree that one of the top edges is not so “straight” as the other when looking down vertically, but I think this is driven by the one-sided weight on one side from the pocket, zip and clasp.
I’m still on the fence because it’s not Picotin/Evelyne-level pricing despite not being double-lined (noting it is bigger than both); and, being a new design it obviously doesn’t have the history/iconic status of other quotas or non-quotas. I find myself reaching for my quotas rather than, for example, my Della Cavalleria, and I don’t want this one to sit unused. I also don't like the widening unless you hold it in. On the other hand, love that it is a easy, big bag format!
Lots of mod shots for those interested! (Pardon my dirty mirror and cluttered office but I did this in a hurry!). Don't think the crossbody look really works, but wanted to show for those interested.
