12%??? :faint: :wtf: :cursing:

can't say i'm surprised though. obviously there was no price decrease when the uk was significantly more expensive than the US 1-2 years ago, and more expensive than france due to the strong sterling

so now a scarf will be what, £228 or £222 depending on whether they apply the increase to the VAT inclusive or exclusive price. i'm sure their production costs have gone up about 20% over two years (a scarf was £186 at the end of 07, £192 jan 08, £208 after the august 08 currency adjustement, and £203.63 after the VAT decrease), i really am  i guess i'll be going duty free forever!

12%! That seems so much but as the value of the pound has come down by 30% since mid-Oct even with a 12% price hike H and other European luxury brands could well be cheaper in the UK for some time... I wonder by how much they'll increase the Euro prices?

it has, but then again US prices were lower than euro prices (and much lower than UK prices) for a few years (scarf: $325 which at the time was about £165/220€ when the UK price was £186, then £192 and the euro price was 235€ (which at that point was about £160-175). the US is a much bigger market than the UK so i don't see why they could keep the prices lower there for a while but not in the UK which ultimately would have a much smaller effect on their bottom line. the sterling can't stay this weak forever, what then when it eventually gains against the euro, will they lower prices? i think not. and even if the UK might be the cheapest place to buy, it doesn't mean that prices have gotten lower.

i don't see a big euro price increase, i think the currency is too strong and it could hit sales to tourists in a big way, but then again i didn't think the UK increase would be that big either so who knows :s

oh and i'm using the 90cm scarf as an example because it's easy, they're always the same price no matter the colour/print and are all the same material. and i remember the price going back a few years :p

What HC, the UK price? If so, yep, the UK is the cheapest place to buy H right now. I got a H belt and buckle for around £310 which is cheaper than the USA

Yes, SJ. I was buying crystal at harrods the other day and didn't realize at first why the st. louis glasses that are around $225 in the U.S. were only 90 gbp at harrods (duh, i figured out later, because the dollar was at 1.45 or so that day!) What a huge bargain and great time to shop in the UK before retailers adjust their prices in a big way.

The UK has been the cheapest to buy european designer goods for a long time now.... I hope that the price do not go up too much: Price of Birkins around the world including taxes in US dollars:

USA : LA 8.5% tax = $9688
France Paris €5300 = $7445
UK London = £4250 =$6164

Americans shopping in Paris can get a 10% rebate and the UK about 12% (?)... the UK is the cheapest, but Birkin waiting list has more people than the queue for the Eiffel Tower.
