Hermes 35cm costs what now?

I wonder if anyone is in the same position as me?! My husband and I are living in Paris - we have been here now for 7 years! - but we have a business in the UK (we're both English) hence money earnt is typically in sterling or USD. However, our basic living costs are all in euros! And of course - most important to this post - I have an outstanding birkin 35cm togo order placed in France which is due to arrive early in 09! With the pound reaching parity with the Euro, I am not sure what will happen when my Birkin does arrive. Ideally, if we have the cash I'll take her, but to be honest I am concerned about how the euro price for a 35 cm togo stands up to that of the UK. I am concerned that with the inevitable Jan price hike the Birkin will now cost 5.500 Euros or 5.500 GBP! UK residents please can you advise if this is in line with the UK prices now?

As to the bread, that really wasnt that long ago. I remember when a loaf of bread was a quarter, and I am not that old.....I have a birkin I bought new at Madison, and the price started with a 5. Well, ok, you can start calling me the O Ancient One now.

Naw, i'm gonna call you the Lucky One! oh to have a birkin that only cost that much!!!

Grill, it works out that if you buy a birkin in the UK right now, it would be around £4350 or £4250 ish taking into account the VAT decrease.

It would be much cheaper to buy the birkin in the UK than in Paris imo. although it also depends on whether or not the UK gets an increase in Jan, I hope not, but you never know.

What HC, the UK price? If so, yep, the UK is the cheapest place to buy H right now. I got a H belt and buckle for around £310 which is cheaper than the USA

Thanks for your input Sammyjoe! I'd love to be able to score a birkin at the UK prices but I think it'll be well nigh impossible for me - particularly given that I want a 35cm etoupe birkin in togo! - which I think is one of the most popular size/leather/colour combos? this is the birkin for which I am waitlisted for here in France!

Historically, it has always been really difficult to get on the H waitlist for a birkin in London, with lenghty queues on the sole day the list is reopened. And even though the Euro is currently grossly overvalued, I cannot imagine that H won't raise the UK prices at the beginning of 2009 to try to bring the pricing into line across the board that said I imagine they'll raise the Euro prices as well....

Has anyone heard anything about price increases for Jan 2009?

I think it would be totally greedy for H to raise their prices in the UK to be honest, we are going into unchartered waters regarding the economy so it would not be a great move imo.

I agree it is very hard to get a birkin in London, but some stores do get them and they are gone in under 5 mins when they have been passed by the intended owner.

By you being waitlisted for the exact combo you want in Paris, it would be best to await the arrival only because in the UK, you can never be sure of what you will get.

I did hear though that H will not increase its prices but you can never be certain until it is officially announced by H directly.

Grill, do you know if FSH has a dedicated period of time that they accept Birkin orders? I am just looking for a 35/40cm clemance black with Gold Hardware. I dont mind waitlisting and then popping over to FSH to collect it.

^Hi Sammyjoe. I actually didn't order from FSH this time even though I have in the past and I am based in Paris but from a cote d'azur store early last year. Paris is a bit more like London when it comes to placing orders, they allow you to make reservations against stock that has already been pre-ordered for the store. They wouldn't take an order for a birkin 35 in togo only clemence, that's why I skipped Paris this time.

In answer to your question, in the past I've made a couple of orders in Paris, early in the year Jan/Feb/March. To be honest, it all depends on the friendliness of the SA and the busyness of the store at the time as to whether or not they'll "open up" as it were and allow you to order. I know you do need to be present in person to place the order even though when it arrives they'll be happy to send it to you! The bags have typically arrived not that long afterwards. Personally, I found being an FSH customer kind of stressful what with the randomness of the customer service - the crowds, etc. that I chose to journey out of town to build a relationship with a smaller store even though I inevitably have longer waiting times.

I think it would make sound business sense if Hermes resisted raising their prices across the board. France is slightly different to the UK and the States, but things aren't selling like hot cakes either here and the luxury markets are feeling the pinch. Even Chanel is cutting 200 jobs here! I haven't shopped at H in London, but have a feeling that even when I return to the UK, I will still make the effort to visit my favoured store on the coast.

The UK is one of the best places to buy ANYTHING right now! My H 90cm silk scarf my friend brought back for me was only £203 or something. At Chanel, for the same price of a classic flap in Switzerland, you can get in the UK a classic flap and an evening bag!

Anyway, my 35cm raisin Birkin that I got this autumn from the boutique here in Switzerland was 9150 Swiss Francs. With the Swiss Franc increasing in value each day, that now equals to almost €6150 or £5925!

Thanks for the useful info Grill, it really helps alot. I think because I am looking for a workhorse type birkin it should be easier to obtain. I really like clemence which lots of people do not really care for.

It is worrying news to hear about Chanel cutting jobs, I never though that would happen, I thought Chanel were going ok.

It would make sense though for you to stick with somewhere you will defo get the exact bag you want. If you see it on your travels, it would be great to pick it up, it is just nice to keep your options open.
