HELP ~ YG or WG MOP 20 motif Alhambra?

With the VCA price increase just days away, I'm seriously thinking about getting a 20 motif necklace in MOP. If I only get 1 necklace in my lifetime, it would be YG MOP for sure. It's classic and pretty and the YG adds extra richness. BUT if I get the YG Onyx 20 motif down the line, maybe I should get WG MOP now for variety and versatility.

When I tried on alhambra pieces at the boutique last year, I preferred YG with the 10 motif, and WG with the 20 motif. I felt that the shorter 10 motif length was more dressy so the YG looked really nice. I preferred the 20 motif in WG because the longer length was more casual.

Should I go with YG or WG for a 20 motif? What if I get YG with onyx in the future?

Should I get 2 10 motifs to connect instead of 20 motifs? I don't know if the clasp showing will bother me.

AHHHHHHH~! I keep finding myself floundering before each price increase. Cartier, Rolex, and now VCA!

Oh Kim Mac I struggled with this one too! This is a tough one!!! I bought, exchanged, overthought it... LOL!

I'm right with you. If I just looked at the two pieces side by side, like 5 links of each, I'd choose the YG as the more beautiful.

If I had to choose a 10 motif I'd choose the YG as it somehow does look dressier/richer/more like pearls, which I associate with YG for some reason.

But if you are looking for something to wear with jeans and out for dinner, and are looking for a 20 motif right now, I'd get the WG.

In the end, after all my changing my mind, I ended up with the 20 motif WG/MOP, 5 motif YG/MOP bracelet, 5 motif WG/TURQ bracelet, and the mini YG/MOP earrings! :) SO you can see, I never really did settle on one colour! But I think if you are even thinking of getting the YG/ONYX one day and want to wear it with jeans and a tee as well as out... I think maybe the WG is the way to go.

Either way you REALLY cannot go wrong!!!

ps if you're wondering if the WG/MOP looks as elegant as the YG doubled up... just look at lovely Charlotte in this scene! Seeing this scene after I'd bought it was like opening a present from Santa! :)

YG!!!! Clean and Classic. IMO, it sets off the MOP so pretty. It looks like it glows more with YG. I do like the WG, but the YG is stunning.
Then again, I love white and gold together a lot.

wow, surfergirljen, we are SO on the same page! i completely agree:

when i look at the 5 motif bracelet - i love the YG (and bought it)
when i try on the 10 motif necklace - i love the YG (looks dressier, classic, richer, and looks better with my skin tone)
BUT
when i try on the 20 motif necklace - i love the WG (maybe because it sits on my clothes and not on my skin so my skin tone doesn't matter) and because it's longer, the WG just adds to the casual, light vibe. so perfect with tee and jean. and i love that doubled up pic of charlotte from SATC.

UGH! obviously i'm not ready to make a decision even with the few days that are left. i just need to get myself to a boutique tomorrow and try them all on. and then it totally depends on what i'm wearing to the store. i guess a black tee and is most neutral. then, i'll come home with the yg onyx, LOL!!!

i'll let you know how it goes tomorrow after i visit the boutique.

I know! I think you should try to follow your heart, not what you think you "should" buy too much... but at the same time try to be honest about where/how you're going to wear it, because you do sound a lot like me and though I long for the YG too, I DO feel like for my lifestyle (on film set a lot/home with the kids a lot) the YG feels too dressy to come out very often. That's why I ended up returning the YG for the WG in the end. I'm sure that will change as I get older and I won't mind being "fancier", but I want to wear it lots now! :D It IS very "airy" and the YG is definitely "richer".

You have the bracelet for fancier YG days... maybe get the WG necklace then and a single motif YG/MOP pendant? :) I'm so bad I know! But you'd have a lovely set of YG AND the awesome classic WG to wear with everything!! (I even wear mine as a bracelet wrapped 4x!)

But you can't go wrong. They're both beautiful. And don't worry - go with your gut and then take 30 days to decide if you want to change your mind... I am SURE they will exchange colours for you. Just beat that increase!

Damn it now I'm starting to want a turquoise single motif again!!! :) :) :)

Hm. This is an interesting discussion. I was going to go for a WG single motif in MOP, but now... I don't wear any yellow gold, but would it be better to get this in YG? Would the MOP look better?

ok, did a little more thinking. while i LOVE the YG MOP - it's my favorite alhambra combination - i really prefer the 20 motif in WG. WG makes it more young and casual.

oh no, i'm thinking i should get the WG MOP 20 motif and later the YG MOP in 10 motif if i want that short/yg option.

i want it all!

i think if you don't wear any YG, you should probably get the single motif in WG. it's a great everyday pendant and would coordinate with all your other jewelry nicely! but if you decide to add YG jewelry to your collection, YG MOP is my favorite combination!
