Wait, really? Why do they remove the tag? I actually like having the tag after purchasing something - it's kind of part of the package...

Every single H boutique I have been to and made purchases have done this. This includes Singapore, Malaysia, Italy, Paris (including FSH), Madison, Wall St, Riverside, and a sprinkling of others in Europe. The only time I had a price tag is when I asked for it back at the till (it was an orylag item, and I wanted to remember the name).

I think they might do it just in case the items are gifts, even from husbands to wives – kind of gauche to leave the price tag on.

In Singapore, customers pay the price that is updated in the system. Sometimes, SAs are just not quick enough to replace the old tags with the new ones. This issue will only arise during the period close to the "price increase". However, I am of the opinion that managers do have the discretion to honour old prices.

This is all very interesting. Perhaps some ppl will not quibble with H just because one doesn't want to be seen as 'cheap' or petty at an upscale boutique. However, as part of customer service, many stores do 'honor' the price tag over the computer system since computer softwares can have glitches too. It is within one's right to find out the correct price.

Many year ago, I went to Burberry during a sale and wanted to buy a trench coat that was marked down along with some other sale items. At the register, the SA realized that the coat was one of their 'classics' which never goes on sale, so this one was an error. She proceeded to honor the lower price saying that it the 'policy' to protect consumers because whatever price indicated on the price tag is the price to pay. To me, that is good service though I never wore the coat.

Yesterday I was at a local Whole Foods and picked up butter, tagged at $3.99. The register rang it up at $5.99 and I saw it after I walked out. Now, it took me a few minutes to look at the receipt and found the error. But it took me longer to decide whether to go back to the store, down those aisles to customer service in order to get that 2 DOLLARS back. I figure it was a computer/register error and went back, despite the time spent.

Whether H or the dollar store, it is certainly within a consumer's rights to find out the correct pricing and to commend the stores that have exceptional service. I wouldn't want to be charged more just because it is H, or expect to be charged less just b/c it is a supermarket. Consistency is the most important principle because both machines and ppl make mistakes. Hopefully, H will double check the price tag in the future so as not to unintentionally mislead clients.

i once bought a bag shortly after a price increase, but it still had the old ticket on the box. they ended up charging me the old price. don't know if they had to honor the old price due to this or bc they were just being nice (as they always are with me!).

I've had the price tag given to me at Wall Street, Manhasset and the airport... maybe it just depends on the SA?
