I'm in Paris and wanted to buy my lovely wife a Birkin but there were none in the store as I was told by the clerk. Is it possible if I come back later and got a different clerk there may be one? This is our 25th so I wanted to give her something special. I'm only here for 2 more days. Any suggestions or help appreciated.

Keep going back, at open in the morning and then again around 2-3pm. They get a few shipments of bags each week and you may get lucky, especially if you don't have a special colour in mind. Good luck!

I agree with webaj. If she's not specifically dying for a Birkin, I would consider a Kelly, which is a quintessential Hermes bag. It's very elegant, can be dressed up or down, and can be carried by a lady from when she is young right up to......

What a sweet husband you are changejobs. Like others have said, try, try again and you don't have to ask the same sales person. Look around and see if someone makes eye contact with you and smiles. Good luck and let us know how it goes. By the way, major congratulations on your 25th anniversary....that is something special.

Thank you all for your advice. the Kelly is a beautiful bag but I know that the Birkin is a bag that she has wanted and would truly love(Yes ladies, even after 25 years I actually still listen her :) and try to please her ) I was there again today with no luck. I will try again tomorrow before we head back to London. Does anyone have a salesperson that they recommend ?

Today is a great day. Mission accomplished !!

We went to the store about noon. Waited about 25 minutes for a sales person and was told none in stock. My wife said while we were there at least I should buy a shirt, which I did. I decided to ask my shirt salesperson if there might be any Birkins. He did not know. I did tell him as I told the original person, that it was a special gift for out 25 anniversary. He went over to the woman's handbag area and brought a sales person to me. He said he would speak with a manager and asked my wife what size and color she liked. She said either 30 or 35 in a basic or neutral color. He told us to stay in the mens area. Five minutes later he brought a box with a 30 Birkin in a taupe color(I'm not sure what they call it). It made my wifes face light up. What a wonderful way to finish our trip.
