Greetings,

Dear all Tpf-ers, I have plan to move other country. And I decided to use the international mover to pack my lovely bags collections. Any advice how to make sure our precious collections will be safe to destination? How to pack them in proper? Do you think it safe we just pack all the bags in one box or pack the bag in separately mix with the clothes/ garments. Anyone have bad experiences before to ship your bag collections use international mover?

I'm so worry about missing them or get damaged when it reach to destination.
Please I need you guys advice. Thank you so much for stopping in my thread n for your time.

Thanks & luv u guys :yahoo:

When I moved from London to NYC and back again I took all my bags as hand luggage. But this was only for part of my collection...like 5-6 bags and a few clutches. I also fully insured my handbags and expensive shoes getting worldwide coverage.

In you case however I would just pack everything in their dust covers and then put them in bubble wrap. And put them in secure boxes. I'd also fully insure everything.

Good luck with you move.

How many bags are you trying to move? I would try to bring as many as could with me. I would actually pack the rest myself and send them via UPS or Fed-ex insured.

I'd stuff them, put them in dust bags, and pack them in boxes with lots of padding so they don't get knocked around in transit.

I'm planning to relocate about halfway around the world in a few years, and I'm not obsessing about my stuff. I'm sure some things may get lost, but it's only stuff.

Hi twinkle.tink

Thanks for your reply. My bags collections are about 50 plus. I'm so stress to think how to pack them nicely. Because need to transport them by vessel use International Mover. I heard n read there are few ppl have bad experience move their bags collections such as missing or damaged. Sound so scary for me. I almost couldn;t sleep keep think n how to manage my bags n shoes n beautiful dresses, Will them get damaged when I will collect them in 1-2 months?
My hubby has advice me to keep all the bags in group n pack in suitcase & lock it. Then do transport them by shipper. Yes I'll fully insure n value them in everything. But it might be takes a lot work & cost for insurances :(
It's my first big move to cross country in my life.

mimi14, thanks for your info. Its really helpful. Just confused do I need pack my bags separately in boxes mix with the garments. or I just group them all in pack in suitcase & lock them.

doreenjoy, yes indeed, will do pack them with bubbles wrap/ blankets.
If there is missing likes clothings or kitchen stuff, I dont mind. But definitely not the bags please. Unless it cost only few bucks/ 10-30 dollars. But they are my precious collections bags :( must be pray hard for it.

For domestic overseas moves to/from Hawaii, I've always hand-packed my handbags, Limoges boxes and Japanese doll collection . . . lots of tissue paper and bubble wrap, plus the strongest boxes available.

In general, whether you are moving overseas domestically or internationally, I suggest you make sure the company you choose has actual experience moving people overseas.
No matter what a company rep tells you, if their company has never actually moved people overseas, their packers will NOT KNOW HOW to pack crates for travel via ship and all that it entails.
If your crate is not properly packed, heavier items inside will shift during the move from 18-wheeler truck to the dock to the ship . . . transfer is made by huge cranes. I promise you: There will be damage to your belongings.

If you are currently living in the U.S., you might check with people who work at embassies and consulates for travel companies they've used. Businesses that often relocate their staff will also know, and so will moving companies in Hawaii (whose workers have unpacked many badly-packed crates from the mainland U.S.).

Good luck!

I've heard a lot of horror stories about international movers -- pick a bad company, and your stuff can go missing or get damaged in transit. There is apparently also very little recourse once something like that happens. This site might be helpful in preparing for your move. If I were in your situation I would pack the bags myself, and ship them using UPS or FedEx instead.

Good luck to you!

I moved from Los Angeles to Hawaii and had professional movers move my handbag collection. I would leave enough space in boxes for your bags and watch them pack it if you can. I brought my most prized bags with me when I flew. Ihth.

I moved from NYC to Asia and took as many bags with me as I could. The rest I packed in their dustbags and then in boxes (I like to use airtight plastic containers to hopefully keep mildew and wetness away). I shipped my bags ahead of the rest of my stuff, using an international cargo/freight company, just because i felt that tracking 1 or 2 boxes was a lot simpler than looking for 1 box in an entire container. Everything arrived intact.
For the rest of my things I used an experienced moving company and they were really good. I didn't lose anything at all, though I did end up paying quite a bit in customs dues when I moved.

Hi fellow handbag lovers,

Hope I am posting in a correct thread. If not, moderators please kindly move it to the correct one.

DH got relocated so we are moving overseas (from Australia to Asia). I have a number of premier designer bags - less than 10 - which I would like to take with me.
Any tips on how to move them? Shipping them seem very risky.
I tried to do a search here in the forum, as well as google, but can't seem to find anything. I am hoping someone in this forum will be able to share their experiences / tips.

Thanks in advance!

I had fewer bags when I relocated but I fit all of them in the carry on suitcase. :D
If your husband would be able to help you out and fit a few bags I'd do this:

Fit as many smaller bags into bigger bags as you can.

Bags that don't hold other bags can be stuffed with clothing or jewelry wrapped in paper.

Place your best bags into the carry ons first. If you can fit all the others go in the normal suitcases.

I carried my favorite bags during the flight. A bigger one smaller bag.

I definitely would not ship them. Some of my shoes were ruined during shipping...just bent and scratched :(
HTH!
