Yes, they might be the hardest substance on earth but they do breakI broke one, a round brilliant, by whacking it on a door frame. It broke at the table, the very top. Sheared straight through the diamond. Ruined it completly, the other was a 2.0 princess, I have no idea how I did it. It sheared straight through the middle. Sometimes in diamonds there are weak areas like where a inclusion rests and if it is hit hard enough in the right spot it will break. It looks alot like a piece of glass that has been hit by a BB, the part inside and around the BB area kwim it has been sheared into two pieces. I hope I've explained it clear enough

that is why the clarity of a diamond is very important factor considerably.
With GIA grading, I would rather to get the vvs1 in H than the vs1 in G color.
