How about the Cuyana Carryall Tote?

Or the Tory Burch Ella line are packable nylon totes. Here's a quilted version with leather handles:

I ran across the Cuyana but the strap drop is too short. But I like the TB Ella. I'm putting that on my short list. Thanks!
Ooor you could go the bespoke route and contact Laurel Dasso. She will make you a bag that's everything you want!
This would probably be a great option but I'm leaving on my trip in less than 3 weeks. Next time.
I love my Tumi Weekend Foldable Tote.

Gorgeous nylon with leather accents. Gray, black or magenta.

One outside pocket, zip closure, long straps and a slip through to go over a suitcase.
This is another great option going on my short list. Thanks!

Some of these are really nice but they are a little heavier or bulkier than I want for this trip. I'm traveling unusually light and have to have the bag go to nothing in my carryon. This & the zip top requirement is making this tough.
Ignore me...The St. Louis has an open top. I forgot that requirement. I've gotten a ton of use out of mine and can't recommend it enough.
Thanks for helping, though. I keep having the same issue. I find cute totes and they're open top. I hadn't realized how many totes don't close on the top.

Yeah, I missed the light part of your comment. Doh!

Do check out the Tumi. Sounds like a good option for you. I stuff it in my carry on and it looks reasonably professional at a business meeting.

We just booked our first real vacation in waaay too many years and this topic is perfect. I realized after commenting that I need this exact item. All my totes are either completely open or have just a magnetic closure. If they zip they are way too heavy for a packable bag. Thanks for bringing this up.

I'm reporting back in to let everyone know what bag I decided to buy. I purchased a Giani Bernini foldable packable tote. :-s

The positives: it's packable, it's lightweight, it was super cheap from Macy's with coupons (under $30), it's size doesn't overwhelm me visually, and the straps are comfortable

The negatives: it's so neutral it's bland. I'm going to add scarf to it to dress it up a bit.

I won't ever "wear" this bag again. I'll just use it to shop at a farmers market or to lug stuff to a picnic. But at the price that's fine.

The main reason I settled on this is I do need a nice black tote and didn't want to spend "real" money on something not quite right in the interim. So, I plan to run to Chanel the minute I land in Paris and maybe I'll find my perfect tote then.

Thanks for all the suggestions and helping me to think through this!! :flowers:
