Hi ladies! I’ve recently received a diamond from someone who expressed a desire for me to wear it as an everyday right hand ring. I need help designing one!

The diamond is a pale yellow colour, approx 1ct, round, but I don’t think it qualifies as a “fancy yellow” - it’s more like an extremely yellow white diamond (probably something like letter N or O (edit: upon looking through pictures of diamonds on the Internet, I’d say it’s even warmer at like Q or R.)). I don’t want to do a simple solitaire on a band - that’s the style I will likely get for my engagement ring (it’s looking likely that I’ll be engaged within a year  and I’d like something I can wear on the right hand while wearing my engagement ring and wedding band on the left). I’m not too fussed if the ring looks “engagement-y” since I’ll be engaged soon enough anyway, and I don’t know that a cocktail ring is great for everyday wear.

If anyone has any design suggestions (pics are welcome - either stock images / from the internet / personally owned) I’m all ears (well, eyes ) thank you in advance!

Anyone? I would also love to see engagement rings that contain a single yellowish diamond as inspiration if any of you would be so kind :)

Hi! Congrats on the nice gift.
My two cents... the diamond is going to be yellow at those color grades, and it will look like poor quality white diamond if you put it next to any other diamonds in your ring such as a halo. My recommendation is to make this a fun right hand ring.

I would put colored gemstones as side stones. Then your center stone can still say “diamond” but the ring will not be judged as a purely a “diamond ring”.

Here is an example... this is a yellow sapphire with pink sapphires as a side stone.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Another option.... you can kind of see where I’m heading with this color sapphire idea. [emoji51]

Thank you for your suggestions! I kind of like the yellow colour of the stone so I was wondering if I should play it up more. I might need to take it to a jeweller once the COVID situation settles and see if there’s anything I can do to make it look yellower!

I do like the idea of putting colour around the stone - maybe the blue sapphire accent stones more than the pink, because I don’t really like three stone rings. I also wonder how it would look with a yellow or pink diamond halo.

Thank you - you’ve given me lots to think about!

How about something like this?

thank you for the suggestion! Wow that’s a gorgeous ring!! I wonder if putting my stone next to a white diamond halo will make it look yellower, which is kind of my goal. It’s a “champagne” colour I think (no brown/green anything undertones) and I feel like my best bet is to play up the yellowness so it looks like a light fancy yellow instead of a low colour white.

I’m torn between introducing more colour into the ring or not. I might need to put this stone next to “true” white diamond just to see what it looks like! Another option might be to do a yellow diamond halo, what do you think? Or perhaps go for a different colour altogether? I really liked the earlier suggestion along those lines too!

How about a plain and thin yellow gold bezel around the stone, then a halo of yellow diamonds and then an outer halo of white diamonds? I’m not sure I’m describing this very well so will try and find a photo of something similar online!

double halo sounds like a great idea! I’m not a huge fan of bezel settings so I guess it would depend on the thickness of the bezel. I’m quite an ostentatious person so I think the increased bling would be a plus. Do you think the yellow diamond halo will make the stone look whiter or yellower?

You need to bring out the yellow, imho. Otherwise, it will look like a meh stone.
Emerald or tourmaline (which is harder) would bring out the color too.
If not the idea of putting yellow diamonds( or sapphires which are less expensive) would be very attractive, imho.
What do you like?

I was thinking a very, very thin yellow gold bezel, just to emphasise the yellow in the stone. I think very yellow diamonds next to it would emphasise the yellow in your diamond. I’ll see if I can find a photo of something similar online!

I agree completely with needing to bring out the yellow. I never considered yellow sapphires - that would also work really well at a better price point! It will depend on how much a yellow diamond halo would cost, I suppose. I’m reluctant to use emeralds - even though I love green - because this is supposed to be an everyday ring and I don’t know if emeralds are a good idea.

I can’t seem to find any pictures of yellowish diamonds with a yellow diamond halo, which makes it difficult to envision, only either vivid yellow diamonds or white diamonds.

honestly my favourite style is a halo/double halo with a simple/pave band. I just can’t figure out what colour to go with. But I’m open to other inspirations that people might be able to give me!

Ooh I think I get what you mean! So not really an obvious bezel. If you do find a picture that would be wonderful! I’m going to explore online as well - I don’t think I can get around to doing this for a couple months but the designing part is the best bit :D thank you!

An all yellow ring would be more versatile, imho.
yellow Sapphires or citrines or imperial topaz would work.
Once you do two colors, it is more tricky to wear and easier to be bored with.
Your next step is to meet with a designer, she could have more ideas to offer as well.

I don’t think you should use white diamonds. Your Q-R color is no where near the yellow shade of any of these photos are. If you use white diamonds, it will make your center stone look low quality and it will look like you are trying to take low quality halo engagement ring and make it look bold. Is it possible to post a photo of your stone on a piece of white paper to see the shade? It’s hard to visualize your yellow shade. If it’s lemony yellow, that would be different.

I would add some sapphires to make it a “color” cocktail ring. The eye will be drawn to ring, not the center stone. I like blue sapphire. It’s a classic. Plus, do you really want an engagement ring look alike on your right hand? To me, it says “that was my first engagement ring”. I would definitely your ring a big cocktail ring.

I love bling bold rings too. With sapphires, you can have a lot of fun. And they are very hard for everyday use (Mohs scale of 9).

Good luck!
