Help me decide on my first Rolex

You sound so much like me before I finally got my watch! I was agonizing for months over all the details, until I finally got mine.

I started out thinking I wanted the ladies size jubilee with white face and roman numerals, fluted bezel. After looking for a while, I realized the ladies size was just too small for me, and I decided on midsize. The more I looked, the more I realized I wanted something a little more lively on the watch, so then I started exploring diamond markers and mother of pearl and different colored faces. Ultimately, I narrowed it down to a silver or rhodium dial with diamond markers, versus black mother of pearl with roman numerals.

I was in the awesome Rolex store at the Wynn in Las Vegas (largest in the world!), and I just fell in love with the black mother of pearl with romans, and I knew it was the one. I bought it on the spot and I have no regrets! After so many months of looking at all my options, I finally just went with my gut on that day.

None of this probably helps you decide anything, but I thought I would tell you how it went down for me :smile1:

My advice is to try on and see as many as you can. There were some I saw online that I loved, but did not like on me when I saw them in person. Also, there were some styles that I thought looked so much better in person (like the concentric circles face).

Oh, and regarding the size, I am SO glad I went with the midsize. It is absolutely the perfect size for me, and I know I would have thought the ladies size was too small (I'm 5'8, if that matters).

Good luck! I can't wait to see what you end up with!:yahoo:

I bought my Rolex two months ago - the final decision was the mid-size pink dial with luminous batons (my DH has an Omega Seamaster and I was so envious that he could read the time in the dark),

Maia, are your markers that bright? I have the ladies size jubilee two tone datejust with champagne face and I don't find that the markers are all that bright unless I've just been out in the sun:smile1: especially compared to my husband's submariner but I guess that's because his is so much larger. I wonder if your markers are a little larger to go along with your larger face.

My watch was a gift from DH and quite a surprise, I love it but if he had consulted me I would have chosen Roman numerals. This was back in 2004, now I'm really loving the mid-size!:p

Zhenya271, my markers are very bright, even first thing in the morning, the larger face does help though. I don't think I would be able to tell the time on a smaller face.

Maia, actually, I just noticed that my markers are only illuminated by dots at the end of the markers and then on the hands. They are not bright at all unless I have been outside. If i'm at the movies I have to bring it right up to my face and squint. :rolleyes:The other night I held it up to a light bulb and it was bright afterwards but I don't know for how long. I guess it's like an expensive glow in the dark sticker!:cursing::shrugs::p
Thanks for your help!

got this link from another forum, scroll down to the bracelet page, the scanned page says 97, it shows oyster bracelet with 'crown clasp' (continuous bracelet/hidden clasp).

can anyone verify if this is available in stainless steel? coz if it is, it would just be perfect. oyster bracelet + domed bezel, midsize datejust roman.

still debating between oyster+domed or jubilee+fluted.

update: still undecided but will definitely get my first rolex this weekend! can't wait!! (was sick last week and out of town the week prior)

The main reason I'm in favor of jubilee with fluted or domed bezel is the jubilee doesn't show as much wear as the oyster. I tend to be hard on things and knock, bang, or bump usually cause I'm always in a rush. Several different jewelers have told me little marks and dings wouldn't show up as much on the jubilee.

Omigosh, xanadu, I really feel for you! It is nice to have that resource, but it would drive me crazy to have to make a decision! All those faces! :wtf:, but you already have that part determined right? I have no input to your query, I am just envious that my watch is the older jubilee bracelet. I really love the continous band!

-You can always have your bracelet repolished by Rolex when you start seeing too many scratches for your liking.

I just sent my 2005 Submariner back to Rolex at the Dallas service center and it literally looks showroom new. Absolutly flawless. They returned it with a felt storage pouch that I keep it in now when not using it. Of course Rolex charges you for the sevice $575. I bought the watch pre-owned and even with the service fee I still saved 2K compared to a new one.

Yup, the jubilee bracelet is super durable...mine is a little over a year and worn daily and doesn't show any wear at all

firstly, thank you all for your inputs.

here's a little background story. with the holidays and the busy schedule between work and parties, i wasn't able to drop by the store mid-december, the time i intended to get my first rolex.

so come january, went back to the AD with 2 options in mind. oyster+domed bezel+white roman or jubilee+fluted bezel+rhodium roman. tried on both. i loved how the first was simple and clean. then i tried on the second, i just knew it was what i wanted.. the shiny fluted bezel, the continuous bracelet, the classic silver face, the feminine look of the jubilee..

unfortunately (or should i say, fortunately), it was not available in junior/midsize (i tried the exact thing in ladies size and one in midsize but with black face). they said new stocks are coming in that week so i had to wait to see the actual combination. then i learned that a friend could get it at a bigger discount!

now the wait is over. got it yesterday, with the best price :yahoo:

love it, love it, love it!! here are some pix.

thanks nvie!

a side note: when i first saw the fluted bezel in midsize last month, it looked too much for me. but the more i see fluted with jubilee, whether displayed in stores or worn by other people, the added shine/texture grew on me :)
