Hi lovelies, it’s been a while since I’ve posted or been on TPF.

I’d love to get your opinions if I should upgrade or stick with my original ring although it’s not actually my original engagement ring it’s actually my 4th I’ve been married for nearly 27th years

my current ring is 1.65 ct and the one I’m considering upgrading to is 2.21 carat.
Both are similar colours and very similar clarity.
I’m not overly keen on the twist setting on the upgrade but it’s such a good price that I’d consider getting it reset at a latter date.

Well I don’t see why not! (Especially if price isn’t an issue)

I too am not into the twist band design but like you said, you can change it later.

Is there anything holding you back?

The only thing holding me back is I still love my ring but I’ve always wanted a 2 carat and this came up for a good price and the jeweller will give me a good price for mine, this being over 2 carats is very tempting if it had the classic setting I wouldn’t hesitate.

Doesn’t sound worth it to me. You don’t even like the setting. Why wear a ring you don’t really like. I think you either love it or you don’t and if you have to ask then perhaps you don’t love it. If you want to upgrade, find a ring or stone you love
The stones gorgeous, it’s just the setting I’m not keen on

Are you willing/okay to spend the extra money to reset it? Because if so, then if it's something you've always wanted, and you can't get your mind off of it, then I think you should get it.

You can always repurpose your current diamond for something else like a pendant necklace. (This is actually what my husband and I discussed on when I asked him what to do with my old diamond once the engagement ring was upgraded...he jokingly said I could have 1 big earring lol, but I think a pendant is lovely).

Edit: on a side note, I currently have a 1.54 c diamond, and my husband initially wanted to get me a 2 c. I told him no at the time, because I didn't want him to spend too much (and I thought 1.54 looked proportionally nice on my finger) even though if you did the math, getting the 2 c was a pretty good deal at the time. And now, to this day, he regrets it and occasionally complains to me that he should have gotten the 2 c lol

For me, the biggest concern is not the setting but if you would be happier with the diamond. You can sell the setting and get the diamond reset in something you will enjoy. My upgrade was set in white gold, and I never liked the setting, so I had the diamond set in rose gold at the suggestion of my husband, and he was right; I love my ring. It was the stone that I was most attracted to. I sold the setting for scrap gold.

Thanks so much for replying and that was an idea I had too, I’ve always wanted a 2 carat and the stone is gorgeous plus its a great price :)

The shrinkage is real.
As far as the OP, if it is your dream to get two carats and you can comfortably afford it, why not.
I prefer the old setting also, but the new setting is more original, imo.
Thanks so much for replying, the lady in the jewellers said she preferred the twist setting but my issue is how it sits between my other two bands but I do love the stone :)
