Shari: Actually i work once a week at the strand (in fact I'm going tomorrow) sure to check it out. Thanks for that, i rarely look at the shops there cos I'm always in a huge rush there are some really gorgeous stuff. (except for the coin store when waiting for the lift, which really doesn't interest me but looking at haighs is way too much temptation lol)

AND WHERE ARE MY MANORS PEOPLE! thank you to all who posted you are all huge wonderful help! I know very little about jewelry and you guys know so much more. thanks again to everyone

Shari: the cut is round, i assume they are a brilliant cut, they are pave into the gold so hence i cant really tell except that they are round. for No.3 they are baguette/emerald cut so i would need to find new ones, I don't care what the clarity or colour they are as long as the naked eye cant decect flaws or colour

Well depending on how large they are you could incorporate them into designs 2 and 4. I think you should get out on start looking around jewelery stores now and get a good idea of what you could get for $500-600.

If you wear other jewelry you could also look in Tiffanys for a bracelet.

However, do avoid getting a diamond just for the sake of a diamond, because the budget means you won't get something really worth having; I got diamond studs for my 18th and they are so so so small to my eyes now, I can't wear them and don't know what to do with them!

those are amazing designs! You're very talented, you should think about going into jewelry design yourself.

For #1 I can see a beautiful piece of jade or even that onyx you said you like so much. If you wanted to use your dad's diamonds you could add them into the band of that one. I think that would be stunning.

#4 could use diamonds or any other small sparkling stone.

#3 is very different, but I think you'd need a large stone and it would probably go over your budget

#2...this one is my favorite of the four. Classic, elegant, if I were choosing this is the one I would choose. I seem to recall you originally saying that yellow or orange would be okay....I can see a canary diamond in that setting.

Pink tourmaline is one of my personal faves! But tourmaline of all colors is gorgeous! Cognac is a particularly lovely color for it  (kind of looks like a champagne diamond). Tourmaline is especially lovely when it contains inclusions, because it gives faceted gems more of a natural look. Ooh and Indicolite Tourmaline is lovely also, kind of a deep medium blue!

The reason I say tourmaline is because it is a durable stone that comes in a variety of colors, and really is beautiful. I have multiple tourmaline rings and I have always loved them, even more than my diamond rings! Plus, it runs on the less expensive side, depending on color/cut/quality, then sapphires of different shades. I'd take the tourmaline over the sapphires any day :D

I would advise against getting Tanzanite in ring form, because it is a softer stone, and if you're looking for an every day long term ring, it probably isn't the best choice (I own a tanzanite ring, but I wouldn't wear it every day).

I'd suggest Fire Opals, because some of the orange ones you can buy are just gorgeous (I've had some, whoosh such a gorgeous orange!), but opal is another one of those stones that you have to be careful with. Certain cleaning methods can even destroy opal >_>

hey naughty,

i just got back to your thread and saw your drawings. why don't you check out boone rings web site. he does some nice work in titanium and titanium mixes. i have seen some tension set he has done for men. i believe he can source the stones also. take a look and tell us what you think.

Sorry for the late post everyone, I've been really busy! After shopping around the prices are really putting me off and I'm getting depressed that i will never find the ring/piece of jewelry i want in my price bracket.

Shari: I checked out Veneri's stuff they weren't bad (I'm not an opal person) but opal were more appealing in the very unusual settings, i can believe I forgot to look at the black gold! i saw it on the net and i was like dam i should have checked that out!

Miss Poufy: Thanks for the complement, ironically when i was 8 or so i really wanted to be a jeweler (shiny things always attracted me lol) now i want to get into fashion design (or shoe design) i think i have a flare for it, me one day i will switch to jewelry design never know.

Neeya: Tourmaline intrests me does it come in colorless? how much is it roughly?
Queen: the boone site had some great ideas thankd so much for posting, food for thought lol.

Ive narrowed it down to either 2 or 3 (maybe 1 lol) atm I'm looking for diamonds to fit 3 but i cant see anything in my price bracket, ive considered going to crystal will that look cheap? (or is it too cheap for an expensive setting like white gold?) my friends are trying to convince me to go the crystal (do they sell Swarovski's or something of that quality in separates?) what about Moissanite? my friends sugessted it I dont know much about it is it like CZ that are completely fake and man made cos i dont want a lab stone, then i would prefer crystal.
I need more advice people sorry to bother again.

Moissanite is lab created.

Crystal and white gold seems kind of weird to me, but I am not sure why. I guess I think that if you are going for a precious metal you should also go for a precious stone!

I can't believe you didn't look at the black gold! They do use other stones as well (I am not an opal fan either) and they will make something up to your design I think.

oh i didn't know that they made up designs too, it seems like they're out of my league in terms of price, gorgeous but out of my league see this is what depresses me i finally fins something i like and i cant afford it lol!

I know the feeling all too well and it sucks! Do you wear bracelets? Maybe a Tiffany silver bracelet (if you like Tiffany's).

Maybe a titanium ring with an etched groove or something and no stone?

Otherwise, just get your family to put the money in an ING account and you keep adding to it for a year and then get something at the end of that year.:smile1:

thanks but I don't really like any of the tiffany stuff, i don't really like logos (anymore after my lv mono bag i got over branding lol) and none of the cheaper tiffany stuff really turns me on, nice but not wow to me.
I do remeber a ring i saw a few months ago that i liked at a shop (it was ss and CZ) but they said they could make a wg and stone version for me for 230 +stone price so i will probley get that it is similar to design in worst cast senario. but im not 100% sold on it yet
