@AntiqueShopper do you have a suggestion on color and clarity for earrings vs. a necklace? With my DBTY platinum necklace I tried to combine largest size and best color/clarity for my budget. For earrings I think you can sacrifice the color/clarity a bit as it isn't as "up front" as a necklace. I've also heard some say it depends on the metal you choose. I'm interested in yellow gold for my earrings (already have a pair of non-Tiffany in white gold/martini setting). Those are .40 each and from what I've seen with Tiffany's a smaller carat weight looks larger due to their cut and the bezel. Not trying to hijack the thread, thought this might be helpful for the rose gold version as well that @sweetbeans is asking about for when she visits the store to see different sizes.

As for general comments about the DBTY earrings, I highly recommend them. I have a couple pair (yellow gold .16 TCW, sterling single and sterling triple drop) and they are very versatile, very sturdy and great quality. The smaller versions are great to wear in a second piercing as well.
It all depends on the size and budget you have in mind. Tiffany does not have any stones below J color (and J stones are very few). When it comes to the DBTY collection the silver and gold (yellow or rose) the smaller stones (.17 and under) are H/I color and IF - VS2 in clarity. The ones set in platinum are G color and IF-VS2 in clarity. So the OP budget at $3k keeps are traditionally in this range. Do you have a particular budget in mind?

Thanks much for the additional info above. I don't really have a set budget, it's more about finding the right size/value combination. I guess my question is, with earrings is it OK to go a bit bigger and go with an H/I VS2 with the yellow gold bezel (will that slightly "lower" color cause them to not appear as white? H/I is still "high"). My target size would likely be between .30 - .40 for each earring. I know you still need to see something in person and sometimes one just speaks to you over another - I'm just thinking about what to ask the SA to get for comparison (they were very good in providing me with a range to select from when I purchased my DBTY pendant so I could try on, compare, etc., before buying).

You can definitely go down 1-2 colors with earrings. Keep in mind very few people see color in stones unless unmounted and on a piece of white paper. As long as the stone is cut well then I wouldn't be concerned. Also there is a distance between your ears and neck, so the stones are not next to each other making color comparison even harder.
