P.S. Get that area of the closet clean and you can put some moth crystals down for a while so the cat won't return to that spot in your closet either.
I know moth crystals are controversial-they don't smell good, toxic to touch, but IMO they are better than cat pee.

Oh Oh My! I'm so sorry!
I have 7 cats but my bags are never on the floor so it hasn't happened to me. I use Natures Miracle for carpet stains. It does work on oders but you have to saturate the area of urine equally with Natures Miracle and then let it dry for it to rid it of odor.
I have used it on carpet accidents and even used a professional carpet cleaning machine but the odor (when your nose is to it) is still there. It does however work miracles on stains.
Cat pee has such a strong reeking odor, and I could never comfortably wear that bag knowing any residue of pee might be in there. If you aren't willing to take it to the Pro cleaners, I'd toss it. Can you just imagine a warm humid summer day and that bag on your arm????

Thank you all so much for your help. I'm going to take it to the cleaners first. If that doesn't work  I'm going to get some Natures Miracle per shushopn's suggestion and Petzyme, per fendigal's suggestion.

I just smelled to bag this morning and low and behold the smell is still there.

BTW - DH was cking the closet again last night because we kept smelling pee and found that he got my LV Manhattan too! Fortunately, only the canvas so I took a cloth and gently rubbed that off. I don't smell anything on it now. Can you imagine if he'd gotton the leather on that one? :censor:

Oh no oh no! My kitty has never missed the litterbox, thankfully, but I'm throwing a glare her way in case she's getting any ideas! You probably want to get a quoted price on the cleaning before you actually go through with it and scout around on eBay beforehand to see if it's possible to replace the bag for less. Of course only if you're comfortable using ebay. I'd just suggest it because I imagine cat pee is a tough stain to remove!

cat pee is a horrible smell to get rid of. My cat peed once on my comforter...I washed it with Nature's Miracle and the smell has never returned.
Also......I did a search once on the internet for ways to get rid of cat pee and there are a ton of suggestions out there (apparently vinegar is one of them).
What I've learned (the hard way) is never leave anything on the floor. My shoes are on shoe racks in the closet, and the purses are on closet shelves.
I have one cat who gets stressed out very very easily, so I know from experience how yucky it can be!

BTW....Petco sells an aromatherapy pheromone which is supposed to relax cats and de-stress them. If you're cat doesn't normally pee on the floor you may want to think of something like that. Cats usually don't pee outside the box unless something is stressing them out.

Thanks :smile1: The bag is a suede type leather. Will this^^^process work on that type too?

Hmm...I know the type of leather you are talking about, and I am not sure whether it would make the leather stiff or not. The briefcase I had was a pebbled leather. But I wish you luck! This is why all my good bags stay locked in my closet or on the bookcase in the bedroom now! Luckily, that was not a briefcase that I loved (and it did come out...the smell will go away after a while, with some effort).

So sorry to hear about this, edsbgrl  . I, too, swear by Nature's Miracle. I have two cats and a dog. My cats have never pee'd on our leather couch but my dog (when she was a puppy) has. I've used Nature's Miracle on our couch and it works. It's a black leather couch and there are no visible stains.

I just checked the front of my Nature's Miracle bottle and it reads:

"For Use on Carpets, Floors, Furniture, Clothing, Cages, Litter Boxes, And All Pet Living and Sleeping Areas."

It doesn't specify leather but it worked on our couch. Good luck!

Just to let you ladies know, I took the bag to the cleaners today and there're sending it to a leather specialist. It'll be 3wks:shocked: until I get it back but I'll be sure to update here.

......Negative prognosis though - they said the smell usually doesn't come out.:hrmm: Stay tuned........

BTW.....I'm going to buy some Nature's Miracle too!

How sad for you. You'll probably never get that smell out. I'd take the loss and buy yourself a new bag.

It that doesn't work my last ditch effort with be the Natures Miracle.
