I agree with you on purchasing from Tiffanys. I trust them and I'm so skeptical about neighborhood jewelers. I hear about too many bad experiences. I love the service at Tiffanys and I'd prefer a smaller size stone with guaranteed quality. I trust their grading system fully. That being said, I do not care at all for the ribbon ring. I like the other 2 choices if center stone will be .6-.7. If you are sticking to a half carat, my favorite setting is the traditional Tiffany 6-prong round stone with the knife edge (I think that is name of it) thin band. Good luck!

I am by no means knocking local jewelers or online jewelery boutiques. I personally prefer to purchase items of a higher standard that has a strong reputation. It could be viewed as a "comfort" knowing that the company has a strong reputation with service and quality.
And im not set on .5 carat but from mulitple visits to the store this is the size range that fits into my budget. If I can go lower on color and clarity, I and VS2, to go up in size to .6-.7 i'm all for it.

I personally WOULD go to an IVS2 if you can, it's a good sweetspot, where it is still white, and still eye clean.

Of the ones you still are going back and forth with I still like the Ribbon. That is distinctly Tiffany's to me and will look great with a stone in the .5-.7ct range.

I'm going to put a suggestion out there for you to consider. It sounds to me that your gf is a traditionalist when it comes to diamonds, and she is very lucky to have a bf who is taking such care in this choice. my suggestion is the classic Tiffany diamond ring, diamond only, plain band. If you really research it you will find that you would be able to purchase a larger diamond for her in this classic design compared to the cost of the other rings you are looking at. I have Never known a girl in my life who did not Love this setting especially if it's larger than she expected! If you look at the Tiffany Metro wedding band ths would make a lovely full Circle eternity band at a very affordable price and give a totally classic look that she will get tons of compliments on. As she has left this up to you entirely, this classic choice is NEVER wrong. Old saying...because I'm old...when in doubt about diamond rings always go bigger and stay classic. Spend your hard earned money on the biggest diamond you can afford and spend your money in the wedding band on the smaller stones. Beautiful now, beautiful always. She can wear her diamond eternity metro band to work for lots of bling and it wont interfere with her work. You will be a hero! My opinion for what it's worth. Good Luck!

Ooh yes I like this idea too!! You have to surprise her (don't tell her you're going in) but I love that idea, have them bring one in in every style she likes with the specs you like, line them up in their black "trays" in preparation. Have her come in, get down on one knee and propose, then have your SA (waiting for you) bring out the tray and say "pick one"! It's the Sweet Home Alabama proposal! Trust me EVERY GIRL would melt at that proposal and it's a great story!

Glad you like that too Jen. Sweet Home Alabama is one of my favourite movies!

I don't disagree with you at all, but he's already decided he wants a Tiffany ring so there's no point in trying to convince him otherwise.

I also agree!

I am so in love with the Tiffany's famous solitaire in ALL sizes! i already have 3 diamond rings:

1.25 round in HOF halo
.93 marquise (very dated)
.50 princess

But I'd take a tiny Tiffany solitaire in a blink!!!!!

I have liked the ribbon from the beginning of my search. My gf and I have had a more other talk and share sessions whereshe shows me rings she likes and I'll show her a few I've looked at. She likes the ribbon too. But it's a ring you need to see I'm person to fully see its beauty. I should be making my way back to Tiffany's in a few days and see what I can find in that ring.
