If I was in your situation, I would definitely exchange for the duffel because i love the duffel, it's so practical and classic. I haven't been a big fan of the patchwork, but it's a very fun design. That's just my opinion. Go for whatever bag you love more. Good luck!;)

If my mom bought it, I would keep it, and buy the other one for myself later. Cherish what your mom gives you. My mom is dead, and everything she has given me, not my taste or not, I cherish it. The bag she choose is petty. Would it hurt her feelings if you returned it? I have a step daughter that is real picky, and I wish so much that she liked what I give her becuase I give it with love. Most of the time she doesn't like my taste and i must confess that it really hurts my feelings to the point that all I give is money now. But what I really want to do it to share myself with her. Maybe that is what you mom is trying to do. P.S. Sorry didn't mean to lecture, do what it best for you.

I would say get the one you REALLY want. You can always get it online, ebay or even an outlet. Same thing happened to me with the scribble line, i just got it and suddenly all these new bags i loved from their line that i wanted. But, i only paid 48.00 for an authentic one on ebay so it's not THAT bad. Good luck!

i love love love the patchwork. it's so fun & cute, but everyone is right. this look is only good in Spring/Summer. actually you can even find some patchwork bags at the outlets already. he practical thing to do is to get something more "traditional". tough call...good luck!

I completely agree. The idea that she went out and invested her time and money into something that she thought you would like says a lot about her love and affection for you. I would keep it and treasure it! It's such a cute bag that it's worth going out and buying a couple of new articles of clothing to wear it with. :) The traditional bags will always be around- especially if you're already having second thoughts about trading it in. Consider it an excuse to go shopping!! Make it a date with your mom! :D

When I was 4 my grandmother gave me the ugliest ragdoll I had ever seen. I remember going home and complaining to my parents about it, and eventually I gave it away. Now that she's gone, I really really wish I had kept it. She had a ton of grandchildren (she had 14 kids, all of them had children of their own) and she was really poor, but she still remembered me and managed to gather enough cash to get me something. The idea that I just tossed away the only thing I ever received of her still breaks my heart. It wouldn't have taken too much room in my closet to have kept it.

pick the one that you will use most because thats what your mom wants to use and be made happy from something she gave you. I have to admit though i would still use this bag even next summer i dont stop using my bags bc the next coach lines comes out i stop using them when i dont like them anymore. personally though i can never return gifts i am very bad like that i always think somebody took the time to pick this out because they thought i would love it and i am terrified of doing something like in the above post ^^ no offense of course but i think that stories like that are why i never throw anything given to me away or exchange it

In my opinion, I think you should keep it. I absolutely love this patchwork pattern and I'm actually waiting for this to go to the outlet store at some point this year so I can get a shoulder bag in the same pattern. I personally think it doesn't hurt to keep it b/c the signature pattern that's more traditional will always be around vs. this is only a seasonal line.

Get what you love. I've never been one to think about 'Oh is this going to be in style in 2 years'. If I like it, I'm going to wear it. Rain or shine, sleet or snow. I don't abide by many traditional rules. Except white. No white after labor day or my mother will kill me...winter white is another story.
