Ebay purchase help- am I being too picky?
Okay my lovely hotties, I need some advice. I am going to be somewhat intentionally vague because I'm not sure whether the seller is an tPF member. I purchased one of the "orignial models" on ebay recently. Price sold was under $100 and there were two bidders (me and one other). Bag was described as "excellent used condition" and "no visible signs of wear." When I received the bag, it is true that the leather is in wonderful condition- a few minor scuffs, but nothing that won't buff out (I think) with some leather conditioner. BUT- there is what looks like a few smudges of pink nail polish on the bottom of the bag- probable the size of two pencil erasers- and a small bit of polish on one of the buckles (sorry- don't have my camera here to take a picture at the moment).
Am I being too sensitive? In my mind, a smudge of polish, no matter how small, is not EUC and "no signs of wear".
So, advice please?

I'm with you woodstock. If someone says "no visible signs of wear", then I take that to mean there are no signs the bag has been worn - no scuffs, no smudges, no stains (of any kind). I saw a bag on the Bay once before that was described in a similar condition, but when I looked closer at the photos, the lining was all snagged and dirty. I would've been so upset had I taken the sellers words at face value. Maybe I'm just anal, woodstock, but I would definitely have to say something about it. It was under $100 so it's not as if you paid full price, but still...the seller needs to disclose ALL signs of wear in a listing. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks Fleur-doll! Just sent a message- the lawyer in me can't let it go. But I promise I was very, very nice (much nicer than I would be if I was representing a client, hee hee). We'll see what response I get. Fingers crossed it is positive outcome. (Not sure yet what sort of outcome I would find "positive").

Sally - I hope all went well with your surgery, and that your eyes will be functioning properly to "see" all your lovlies!!! I know I want to see inside your closet!! lol

Woodstock - Yeah, visible nail polish definitely takes the "no visible signs of wear" factor into the visible zone. That would upset me too, if not disclosed. I hope it gets resolved to your satisfaction.

Sally I hope everything went well! My mom had laser eye surgery back before the FDA had approved it. A doctor in her area had a clinic down in Mexico and he and his patients went down a couple of days a month to perform procedures. Needless to say, I was a little worried. It was quick and simple and we went shopping afterwards and to this day she includes it amongst the best things she's ever done. I hope yours is even easier and you have as stellar results.

Nailpolish is def a sign of wear, that's a pretty hardcore stain.

Thanks for all the advice everyone! I heard back from the seller yesterday really promptly. Though everything is not resolved yet, I think she's a class act. Not going to share all the details but will say she had a reasonable explanation. Now I'm hoping I can solicit a little more advise from you experts. She offered to allow me to return the bag at her expense or, if I still want to keep the bag, suggest a price that I think is reasonable. I'm thinking I do want to keep it.
I don't want to post details and pictures publically, but would anyone with "classic HH" pricing experience be willing for me to PM? Pretty please?

That's good news woodstock! So happy for you that she's not giving you a hard time over it; sounds like she didn't realize the nail polish qualified as a "visible sign of wear"...we're all different in what we see and don't see. I'm not the one to give you advice but I know there are ladies here that can. Good luck, hope you get a resolution that makes you happy.

woodstock I have a very similar issue as you. I got an item with "great condition" and scuffs here and there I don't mind, but the narrow strap have sealant cracks all over it esp the corners so I contacted seller nicely if she can pay me $15 to have cobbler patch it up and I sent her the photos (posted) since the shoulder strap is only 5/8" wide. This morning, I am told I am a bully and that I already resold the bag and don't have it in person??!!! She would only refund me, but then I'd be out the taxes I paid for bringing it up north. I am really tired of sellers not representing item correctly, before I always just sucker up, but this time I am really annoyed as I got another cuff that seller sold as new using stock photo, turned out well used that I am returning. Am I being unreasonable here??

You're being a bully? I love it, you bought something she misrepresented (i.e. lied about) but she's the victim and you're a mean bully. Do a SNAD on her and let her tell PP and eBay they're bullies. you're not being unreasonable at all rocknbarbie.

I despise it when sellers only use stock photos or stock descriptions without any attempt to describe the condition of the item they're selling; it's laziness pure and simple. Why would I want to spend money on your item when you can't even bother to put in a few lines of your own about what you're selling? Yes, I'm thinking of several items for sale on bonanza right now where you can't find one original word about the bags for sale.

okay... that's really weird... how would she think you sold it already?? i had someone who had an issue with a bag i sold on a board, and honestly i had no idea because i had bought it from a friend and then listed it right away as it just wasn't my style afterall. then she wanted partial refund, so i contacted the friend who said the other woman was crazy.... i was caught in the middle. so i dunno... i've been on the other end, and online dealings are crazy. u never know who u're going to deal with. i think u're prob better off just getting it fixed yourself and keeping the bag or fixing it and then reselling it if you don't like it. but then again... for me, that bag will always have the memory of a bad taste in my mouth and that horrible seller, so not sure if you're like me.

I hate to say it but I've had imperfections on several brand spanking new Hayden Harnett bags fresh from the plastic wrap (glue dots, loose stitching, a little cut on the edge of the leather, little dents) . I don't mind because I know the bags are not mass produced and I appreciate HH for their original designs.
I think if someone lists a bag for sale with no damage they might mean there was no damage caused by them and they might be overlooking the imperfections the bag had from the start. I don't think it's right ( people should accurately describe everything about the current condition) but I can see how someone might do it without thinking.

kinbrooklyn damage as much as those ^^ photos? i've had my anthracite sonia for awhile, and the areas below the rolled handles are starting to wear like that, but i've been using that thing for awhile now.
