Have you stop buying a brand/designer bags because it has little/no resell value?

I don't really care about their resell value because I don't think I'd ever sell my bags. I bought them in the first place because I loved them and I was really certain I want to have them. I guess that's why I'd never splurge impulsively on bags--I would think about it until I'm really sure.

There is NO WAY, that everyone in this forum, buy and KEEP all their bags. We all have a shared addiction. All of us, find ways to "disburse" the "extras." Wouldn't you want to get some $$ off of them?

I sell very few, actually - I think I've sold two bags over the course of 8.5 years?!

I ought to sell a few more, I suppose, but I don't seem to get around to it very often.

What concerns me, though, is that if people end up limiting themselves to only buying a couple of brands, due to their higher resale value, unless those brands really do happen to be the only brands they really like the designs from; how can that mean they're really buying the bags they genuinely like the most? :shrugs:

I just think it's a bit of a pity if people, who genuinely like bags, are limiting themselves to a handful of designs, on the basis of resale value?

I do sell my bags when I'm ready to move on to another, and re-sale does play a role in whether or not I make the initial purchase. I would pass on a bag I if I thought I couldn't get 50% of what I paid for it.

The resell value of a bag isn't something I take into account when I buy a bag. I usually buy a bag because I like it. The last couple of years I've usually spent a lot of time researching and drooling over a bag before I buy it. I think if I were to start taking into account its resell value I'd probably never buy a bag :p

I see handbags as investment but not the resale investment kind. What I mean as investment is more like how many times I wear it+ the quality of the bag+ time that I have it/ original price. I sometimes think of it as more cost/ efficiency investment than resale value investment. In my view I only have a few handbags and I like them to withstand a good time with use so they get their value worth instead of getting a new cheap handbag every certain amount of time. Then again I am a finance control freak and I will panic if I see a bag just looking pretty in my closet and not getting some action. That is the reason why I am meticulous with what handbags I get cause I want to wear them to death and get their value worth.;)

Sure you would like to have a bag that has a good decent resale price like the Monogram Speedy in all in its sizes in case you have tons of handbags instead of little few handbags like me:D. But never expect the resale price tag to be close to the original price. That is a rarity in the resale market.

Yes, I learnt my lesson with Kenneth Cole. I bough the bag retail price for almost $500 and ended up only getting less than a $100 for it within 3 months. From that, I learn to only by certain brands (Coach,Marc by Marc Jacobs, Gucci etc.) only when they're on sale/ in an outlet (if they have one). I learn to know how to wait for a few months and get a bag I want in a more affordable price (being a high school students, money is an important thing to consider). Also, in the mean time of waiting, sometimes I fall out of love with it and ended up don't need to spend money on it! However, when it comes to brands like Louis Vuitton/Chanel/Hermes, I just buy what I want if I think the bag is worth the price. I love bags, but I love my money more ;)

I never buy bags to resell, but sometimes find myself doing that. I just don't like waste/bags sitting in dustbags. But I don't like the risk and inconvenience of selling on, say, eBay. So for now I am more or less satisfied with what I've got. And instead of buying premier brands on impulse, these sorts of purchases will now have to be Kipling or something. That way, if I tire of them I can give them to friends.

That is me before I started on designer brands but some "designer brands" are just not something you "give away." So once you start on more than Kipling bags (which I LOVE AND OWN at least a DOZEN, including luggage pieces) you will see what I mean by reselling. Actually, you'd be surprised how well Kipling resells.

I used to only buy bags that I loved but now I also have to think the re-sale value because I sell my bags often when I fall out of love with them. And I fall out of love with a bag often. Now I would only buy high end designer bags because when I re-sale them at least I get 60 percent back of the original price.
