Wow, I really see myself in this thread. I had a
Coach bag that I bought (full price in a department store) in 1992. I carried it every day until 2004. Yep, really, no kidding. I had no unmet needs. I never gave my bag a second thought.
Then I discovered designer bags on Ebay. I was very, very careful in buying. I didn't struggle with authenticity. So...I went nuts. From about May, 2004, to Feb, 2006, I bought about 25 bags. MJ,
Prada, LV, Tod's, and
Fendi....
Well, I won't say they were mistakes...I LOVE my MJ and Tods bags. Wear them and love them just as much as when they were new. But Prada, LV and
Fendi turned out to be mistakes for the most part. I still keep them - I really don't want the hassle of selling - but I literally have never worn a
Fendi Selleria bag I bought in February. This was my last purchase and now I'm just 'rehabilitating'.
Why did I do it? I think I just got caught up in the 'game' on Ebay. I would scour around looking for just the right deal - the overlooked treasure, etc. and I just kept buying them. The second I got them home and in the closet it was on to the next. Frankly, sometimes I'd move on before I even received it. I remember asking dh for a bag for every occassion we celebrated in 2005, including our 10th anniversary. He thought it was kind of strange and I guess by the end of the year I sort of agreed.
I'm glad that's over. Maybe it was my mid-life crisis? Still cheaper than a Porsche.
