Have you ever purged your handbag collection and regretted it afterwards?

When in doubt, don’t get rid of. You’ll know when you want to get rid of something. I’ve sold a ton of bags over their years that I regret getting rid of.

Yes, this! I got into Coach right as the 1941 collection launched and bought/sold so many from that first release that I absolutely regret selling (1st generation rogues both exotic and regular; rogue satchels; etc). I am slowly trying to find my way back to those OG 1941 pieces (I find the quality of the "new" 1941 bags to be lacking) but the resale markup is insane if you want new/like new condition. I was able to find a couple within the Coach groups on Facebook and luckily the ladies are reasonable with prices, but it is still more than I would have paid had I bought them on sale. I learned my lesson with Coach - I won't sell any of my collection unless I absolutely need the money for bills or emergencies.

@Amazona I think attempting to do this this week is helping. I’ve been thinking more about the bags I’m considering getting rid of, and when about to switch into the red one to try it for the day, I found I didn’t want to, and wanted to continue to use one of the bags I decided to keep. I think that pretty much answers my question as to whether or not to get rid of them. It still stings a bit when thinking about letting the blue bag go, however. May wait a bit on that.

@Caspin22 That’s crazy to me. I can’t imagine owning that many bags and regularly using all of them. Heck, that’s why I’m trying to downsize, because I don’t use the majority of the small collection I have lol. I can agree to the feel, though. My favorite leather is Coach smooth glovetanned, and the bags I’m contemplating getting rid of are just that. The leather is beautiful and smooth and the colors vibrant, so I don’t know why I don’t reach for them. They used to be my favorites and now they’re just… not anymore. It’s hard to decide. :/

@fayden I’m afraid that will happen with me. I’m pretty sure I need to get rid of them, but a little voice inside me is telling me not to.

@yli1123 This is my problem. I’ve returned so many bags because I impulsively purchased them, thinking they would fit into my collection. I have begun (these past months) to be very strict with my purchasing habits, and not just with bags. I ask myself do I really need this? Will it fill a hole in my collection? What purpose does it serve that another similar item I already have does not? Am I only buying this because I haven’t bought something in a while and am itching for something “new”? It has worked pretty well so far, especially when I remind myself that 95% of the items I impulse purchase get returned. I am proud of myself in this regard. I want to surround myself with items that only make me happy, and have been enjoying downsizing different aspects of my life.

@PurseUOut May I ask, did you regularly use those first Rogues? Why did you sell them in the first place?

I totally get that. My tastes and preferences change. Sometimes I'm obsessed with a bag and when I get it, I love it. I use it a few times, and then just don't feel it anymore and it sits. Sometimes it's because I'm itching for something new. But now I'm finding that those are the bags I regret when I sell them. Because after a while, I come around to "craving" that bag again, if it makes sense. Bags that I feel "meh" about when I get them are the ones I don't miss when I sell.

I am kind of the opposite of the first part you described-- the bags that I love at first and then just suddenly don't feel them anymore after a short while, I never miss them later. For whatever reason, once I feel done with a bag, I am done. But like you I also don't miss those I don't love in the beginning.
